No New Races... But New Clans?

New clans with altered models would be no different to making new races entirely. It would be the same amount of work involved in creating a new character type.

In any case the character creation template may not allow for more than two clans anyway. It could be easier to program in new races than add clans.

I’d much rather they fix existing races before adding more Fantasia bait. Fix Viera and Hrothgar hats, add stubble and beards, add more customisation for all classes in general while you’re at it. Then maybe look into new clans or races.

2 years and the races are still not complete lol Maybe viera will be with the males coming but i wouldnt count on it. At the very least i expect haircuts and helmets to be missing and Hrothgar torture will continue.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I'll just say it in case no one knows or forgot. Garleans aren't a sub race of Hyur they are their own race. Technically, NPCs like Arenvald are hybrids just like Hilda. But because Garleans and Hyurs are quite close, physically, it's hard to tell them apart.

Also in regards to clans, the game, and the devs, have stated there are quite a few clans, but the differences are the same as real life variations; so minute that only the broad strokes get noticed, which are the classifications we use in game. Think about real world groupings, like Asian or Hispanic, those are very generic and contain many sub groupings. They are also two groups that can get confused for one another sometimes.

There is actually no major benefit to this, as it wouldn't change anything for your character. It would only add to your "back story", which is self-created anyway.

Au Ra, imo, would be lovely with their closer to concept art as options- the females had this cool succubus look and the males looked quite draconic.

There would be nothing I like more. It would be exceedingly cool to learn about one of the lost dragon brood and meet their draconic progeny along the way, discovering that the Au Ra are indeed draconic in origin, and the new clan is a more "pure" strain of draconian.

Honestly..if they can afford to make new clans, Id say scrap the whole idea, and just spend that time making more customization options.

Garlean PCs will never happen. Every job and class available uses magic--even the Disciples of War--to empower and guide their actions. Garleans cannot do this and can only get around this weakness by use of magitek, which has much stricter limits than real magic. Story characters left and right would have to make concessions for a Garlean WoL who is unable to wield the most basic of little magicks. Some game mechanics exist because this is a game and we need certain conveniences, but are sometimes referenced in the game lore, like our unusually abundant Anima that allows us to teleport all over the place while everyone else has to walk or take a boat. These would make no sense for a Garlean WoL, who would need to take the boat with everyone else. Things would just be really wrong if we could make a Garlean WoL.

They could absolutely make Garleans playable by simply saying they are Resonant. They could even write a story about how a group of escaped and then were rescued by the Scions or someone else.

However, they would have to start at a higher level. Similar to some of the jobs starting at a higher level because story-wise, it would have to be after Endwalker when the fate of Garlemald is presumably settled, and we get a whole new story arc.

I'm still wondering why they off-handly mentioned there was an ancient third clan of Au Ra a while back and whether or not we'll actually see them.

Though with 6.0 likely delving into the events immediately pre/post Sundering we might finally get a clear answer regarding the origin of the races, and I'm thinking there was probably one original progenitor clan for each of the races that the others were eventually born from.
