    About Dark Knight...

    Why does it look so uncomfortable for Dark Knights when they hold their swords in default stance and when running.?Like, I understand that the developers wanted to go with the realistic way knights used to hold their long/great swords back in medieval times. But, I don't know. It just looks.. painful for Dark Knights when their holding their swords like that.

    Sorry for the random thought blurting, but I've been thinking about this for the longest time and have been wonder what other people think of the way Dark Knights hold their swords.

    Honestly, it would be really nice if we could switch the default battle stance completely without having to wait for the second idle battle pose to kick in, along with being able to switch the default running of the job as well when the weapon is out.

    Anyways, what everyone else's thoughts?

    I have a macro for Dark Knight:
    /cpose

    I press it when idling in battle so that my sword hangs over my shoulder, which it normally doesn't in battle. You can press it out of battle so that the idle pose kicks in quicker, and you can also adjust how long the idle pose kicks in out of battle in in Character Configuration so that it's instant.

    They wanted to give the sword weight. Holding swords as large as DRK's in real life is nearly impossible without like, mechanical arm aid due to physics and leverage. The whole theme of the job is struggle for what's right and what you love, even against the powers that be and make laws.

    The default stance for the sword reflects the struggle portion of the class fantasy. It's not really for realism at all. If it were, they'd give DRK more moves involving stabbing, as well as moves involving moving a hand to the part of the blade just above the hilt for more control/leverage.

    So it looking painful is on point.

    Uhh.. I don't know about that.. Have you seen DRK's 'Victory' emote? Besides it's kind of a thing in like eastern games or anime for swords to be gigantic.

    Wellll, considering the DRK /victory emote is literally Cloud's victory pose from FFVII, and the fact he wields swords like the infamous Buster Sword that should be outright impossible to pick up let alone swing around like a baseball bat, I think that is fully justified.

    Having said that, PLD's original relic weapon Curtana is canonically made from a solid piece of marble (according to the artist who designed it in the art book), and yet PLDs like my character seem to have no problem or ill-effects of swinging it around, I'd say it's one of those "willing suspension of disbelief" times again. Don't think about it too much.

    Looking slow and painful is because of how heavy the blade actually is, and it becomes fast from moving down because of gravity, and then momentum.

    I came to learn from Cloud in the FF7 remake that the standard pose on a dark knight is to look like you are blocking attacks, using the thick blade as a shield the way a paladin would hold up their shield.

    unfortunately, its a reference to the dark knight job from earlier final fantasy games. Given SE wanted to double down on these references, thats why we had the great animation of dark passenger cut in favour of that weird one cecil uses which does not translate well to 3d

    contrary to popular belief though, greatswords arent as heavy as people think they are and the second hand is used for control rather than strength. However the majority of the greatswords drk's use as per asian aesthetics are comically long.

    The blade still does move fast because of physics. Its just the animations and sounds, or at least the ones we used to use, had more weight added to them eg shadowskin was a genuine block method, delirium 1.0 has the animation pause in order to not slam the ground

    It's based on real sword stances. The default dark knight pose is based on the ochs stance, slightly angled and exaggerated for dramatic effect (and because, being a Final Fantasy game, our swords are much, much bigger and heavier than most real greatswords would ever be).

    Those blades are so tiny, lol! They look like the size of Paladin's broad swords. xD

    @Jeeqbit
    Ah, I never thought about the sword being used like a shield before. That helps think better of the stance than looking awkward.

    Lol, maybe Dark Knight's great sword is made of heavier material? xD

    @Vyrerus
    Huh, never thought about the job class and such in that light before. Dark Knights seem even more masochists than I previously thought now. xD God, I wish the gameplay of Dark Knight was more like that first scene of Fray when he got stabbed and healed himself by cutting down a knight. Would take that kind of high stakes, high reward type of fighting style over the Blackest Knight shield spam, even though I love that move.

    good grief, I didn't recognise it was ochs because of the exaggeration downwards, yet when the drk raises the sword to fire off flood of shadow, they return the sword to what ochs should be
