Normally you’re a bit off the mark with your WoW/FFXIV posts and comments, but I feel like you hit the money with this one (mostly).

WoW is XIVs biggest competitor. But even taking some eastern MMOs, the newest ones that come out, the top newcomers on the steam store, for example: Bless Unleash, Swords of Legends Online, these are newcomers who should know better. But they either provide clunky user experiences, treat you like a commodity and shove cash shops in your face, or just... don’t like the player.

It’s fine to criticize XIV. (Unlike how I may sound on the forums, I do it all the time. I just think there’s a need for fair balance and some of these criticisms on here tend to ignore the fact that we are JUST now finding footing again in the US, let alone in other parts of the world).

Keep criticizing the game. Do it! But just do it with the knowledge that oh GOD it could be worse. You could be playing that one MMO that relies on potions to keep you alive and then sells those potions in the cash shop, and when your bag is 50% full, won’t autoreplenish HP.

I think what a lot of FF14 players forget is the Square Enix devs all played WoW pretty heavily from the sounds of it. It is easy to forget they took away some pretty obvious lessons. Do you think it is an accident that this MMO does not have allowed Addons? Is it an accident that FF14 gear end game looks a hell of a lot like Wrath of the Lich King with gear sets from vendors, currencies and materia slots that are set in stone and predictable.

Do people even understand the amount of grinding you have to go through these days in WoW to get a single gem slot to get any remote customization on your gear? The devs have clearly played the competition and what is hilarious listened to those players complaints and applies them here. I do think they went way way way way overboard to childproof pvp in this MMO and are limited by technology on what they can upgrade with the glamour system.

I mean anyone worth their salt knows this cause it's how they fixed XIV. YP made his team play WoW to see what works and what doesn't.

I'm one of those people and I still think the devs care about this game. It's just clear that viera hair is not on the top of their list of priorities. I used to play WoW and I left because I felt like the devs don't care about most of the game. I'd rather deal with being disappointed by a few things than 90% of a game.

I'm glad you understand that the hairstyles are not on top of the list. However, there are quite a few who think other wise and rant about it. You are one of the few who understand this. I'd figured I would get the usual responses.

Can confirm. Spent 13 years in WoW and it was awful to see it turn into what it is today. It's soul left with the original team, & it's heart is just about beating.
