I knew this was a long shot for Xenogears Crossover but...

Part of me desperately wanted to see a Xenogears Crossover, but as time goes on it seems very unlikely.

The dream is dead I guess.

Not Xenosaga or Xenoblade, but Xenogears back when Square Enix was Square Soft.


Imagine Grahf being re-imagined as one of the Garlean Commanders since he already fits the part considering how similar his armor is versus the Garlean Armor.
Would have been cool to see Fei using Big Bang too.

Oh well, hopefully Xenogears will get some love one day but don't think it will be in FFXIV.

I don't think it is legal limbo. Xenogears is owned by Square, which is why Monolith had to go with Xenosaga, and then Xenoblade. Square just has had no reason to do anything with the IP as the creators are no longer with Square.

There is no legal limbo as far as I know, Square still wholly owns the IP.

The real problem is the creative team behind the game left Square after Xenogears to form their own studio, now known as Monolith Soft; they're also the ones behind Xenosaga and Xenoblade, and are owned by Nintendo at this point (they've moved around over the years). Pretty much anything other than a neat little reference is going to need their involvement to be accepted by fans, and whether or not that will happen is a big open question by itself; so there's still an obstacle, it's just not a "legal limbo" one.

That being said, I'd like to see something revive the Xenogears IP at some point... but without a doubt, it needs Monolith Soft to be involved.

Not unless Square sells the IP. The only thing stopping square from doing anything with teh IP is lack of a creative team for it. Monolith Soft does not need to be involved, just a new creative team

If they want it to be remotely accepted by the fans, then yes they do need to be involved. They're the heart and soul of that series. Without the heart and soul, it's just a hollow reflection.

I thought the idea of colligation/cross over is an agreement event between two "active" games trying to help each other in promotion.
I don't recall Xenogear has any active title currently.

I have much love for Yoshi-P and the team but just like XIV would not be the same without them, Xenogears would not be Xenogears without Takahashi and his wife. They are the soul of the entire Xeno series.
