They should just make a noulith glamour that looks like test tubes or syringes or something.

I remember these quests, and I can't say the thought of potential "Chemist" ever crossed my mind. Combat medics would naturally exist without needing to be an actual fleshed out player job. As far as dropping hints goes, geomancer still seems like the most obvious and disappointing. We predicted Chemist based upon a main story quest in which we help a little girl on the First start studying under the lead of the hospital area in the Chrystariam. She described an adventurer that saved her life with an incredible potion, and all the details she described matched the legacy designs of chemist. The game dangled it right in front of our faces.
I wasn’t aware they had art block on the weaponry. It’s been all over the place ranging from daggers to claws to handguns.
I wouldn't be totally against the idea of Chemist. It should work. But I also imagine as long as healers are classed as Disciple of Magic, you're stuck with magic-themed healers. In truth, it shouldn't make a difference. "Mind" as a stat should still work just fine.
They came to the 3.0 drawing board with some kind of Chemist and it evolved into AST.
They came to the 6.0 drawing boars with some kind of Chemist and it evolved into Sage.
But you know what they say...
The third time's the charm ; )
Considering they're openly revisiting the idea we know they're interested in making it happen. I'm hopeful they'll keep at it until they get it.
Alchemist make potions, so i don't see why they'd add chemist that toss potions at people - they can just buy potions and use them - it's kind of weird theme to have "toss" as job description.
If it use guns, it just sounds like a Machinist as a healer - like, instead of auto crossbow, you shoot healing syringes at your party? The whole thing just sounds so weird to me.
Sage with ion cannon sound more interesting as far as science barrier-healer goes though.
Or Ironworks created a time-machine, so you could have a science based time manipulator to reverse damage, and cause damage to enemies - i don't see the the point in potions or such.
Well, i think the only reason they brought it up, is because a lot of ppl have requested it, and still do, but if they haven't yet in how many years? Then the concept is still weird to them too. I don't think it's just "writing themselves in a corner" it's just a weird theme. It feels like grasping at straws, to try making it work.
but if they manage to do something interesting with it, then by all means.
I thought Dancer was awkward too, but they ended up adding it, and it's still awkward i hope they revamp it like they did with MCH.
In theory a sciency healer job would be neat but I don't expect it to happen. They're still going to use mp, still going to have cast bars, still going to be disciple of magic. For better or worse the game has certain boxes in its design they're not likely to step outside of.
I'll honestly be surprised if we even get a fifth healer at all, at least before like 10.0. I don't think two jobs per expansion is something that's going to continue to happen every time in general.
I don't think it was as Meta as that, just them having fun making alternate sorts of WOLs from other shards to have us fight, things that werne't one to one to in game jobs.I've said this in several threads before, so apologies if you've seen this:
The patch around the Heroes' Gauntlet also included several quests in the Crystalarium.
In there, the bosses added were specifically "Berserker", "Thief" and "Necromancer". The quests in town included a girl who wanted to become a sort of combat "Chemist/Churgeon" (Sorry, I forget which was specifically named).
I'm of the belief these were specifically to say these will not be added in as player jobs despite players constantly wanting them. As in, Yoshi-P can joke "Players requested we add Thief to the game, so we did!"
For the 'chemist' angle I never got why people thought that was hinting at a job, especially when we were wrapping things up on the first and new jobs aren't likely to be tied to the First going forward.
I think I remember reading somewhere that the dev doesn't fancy the idea of having a non-magic wielding healer (they think it's 'weird') so they drop it entirely. Sage is what they eventually came up with.
Unfortunately I feel that if Chemist ever reaches XIV it'll be as a physical ranged DPS, because of the whole "can't think of it as as Healer, because Casters". Mix between Dancer and Ninja. They'd use a hand-cannon like FFTA2 Cannoneers and their thing would be that their big "Ninjutsu/Step" CD would be Mix where they input several ingredients in the cannon and release them as a "mist" buffing the party or debuffing the enemies.
As long it took to get a 4th healer...I HIGHLY doubt we will get chemist in the following expansion after endwalkers. That's roughly 6 years.
I would think if we were to get chemist it would be called Apothecary just to differentiate it from Alchemist. Just tad confusing from that aspect.
Chemist would more then likely be a DPS/support job at this point with the addition of Sage.
Chemist would be a PERFECT fit to stand with DNC, BRD for supporting the raid/party with potions, concoctions, mixtures, poisons.
I don't want SE to give up on this either as I would like to see the FFX-2 Chemist personally.
No way in hell it will not. Chemist will be a healer just like it has always been.Unfortunately I feel that if Chemist ever reaches XIV it'll be as a physical ranged DPS, because of the whole "can't think of it as as Healer, because Casters". Id be severely angry if it ever became a dps. If it were a healer that did more dps than others, then that would be fine. but chemist should never be a dps.As long it took to get a 4th healer...I HIGHLY doubt we will get chemist in the following expansion after endwalkers. That's roughly 6 years.
