To SquareEnix Could you provide the animations of FFXIV 1.x story line?

Since is no longer possible to get FFXIV 1.x and the animations where great. I wonder if it would be possible for square to render the story.

I know that a flashback gameplay to 1.x would be too much work. But a video rendering shouldn't take too much work and would be great for players to see what happened before ARR events.

I'm pretty certain it's not really possible I'm afraid for several reasons (and by 'animations' I presume you mean cutscenes?). Unfortunately one very big reason why they haven't done it so far is the 1.0 models and environments no longer exist - SE disposed of them after ARR launched so any such "flashback" would actually have to be a reinactment or reconstruction using ARR models and environments, which are different, so it really wouldn't be the same cutscene.

Having said that one story cutscene from 1.0 was restored in ARR (the flashback to Raubahn's infamous gladatorial fight in the Colleseum which secured his freedom from gladitorial slavery and his place on the Syndicate was reconstructed as part of a post-SB main story quest), so it is possible. It would just be very time consuming to have to reconstruct every 1.0 story cutscene, so I do not see them doing this wholesale, but probably where the current storyline would require it.

The other important reason that is not apparent unless you were a 1.0 player is simple pragmatisim. 1.0's storyline actually was very disjointed between two seperate story arcs, one of which was never even completed and abandoned. The original 1.0 starting city story and the Path of the Twelve storyline involving Minfilia and researching the Echo was abruptly abandoned, and ended up being replaced by the 'Seventh Umbral Era' story that dealt with the formation of the Grand Companies to head off Nael van Darnus's renewed assault on Eorzea and the summoning of Dalamud (ARR technically picks up from this later storyline more than the former).

This wasn't actually as interesting as it sounds. Most of the relevant info is already shown throughout ARR anyway so you're not out missing much (and it should be noted much of the 'original' story has since been cannibalized for ideas and concepts for ARR's starting story anyway, so much of the same ground was covered, if not outright retconned.).

Also SE included a DVD with the Collector's Edition of ARR called 'The Waning of the Sixth Sun' that features the most important 1.0 story cutscenes as a sort of 'catch up', which I presume someone has probably since uploaded on Youtube so if you're curious about 1.0's storyline, or what there was of it.

The main reason we will never have animations like 1.0 is because 1.0's cutscenes were mo-capped. They were AMAZINGLY well done and animated, but that also brings an extra cost, and I don't think they'll ever justify being able to spend extra to do that again.

1.0 was a really weird mess where there was a lot of stuff not done in MMOs before or since. Mo-capped cutscenes, intensive crafting that required you to make the mats for EVERYTHING, the game knowing where you were on a sloped surface and adjusting your stance, inertia when running/stopping, seemless regions with no loading between city and zone (except between different regions), etc. But a lot of that while nice was also a lot extra that was deemed unnecessary and trimmed off and I don't think we're ever getting it back. 1.0 spent a lot of money and effort on inconsequential things while ignoring much more important stuff, like maps with things in them and a playable game.

That said, I think it would be nice to bring it up to Yoshi-P at a fan fest or something.

Alternatively, this is a well done write up of what all happened in 1.X

One thing that consistently amazes me is that if you look up any summaries of the plot for 1.0, almost all of it consists of the Seventh Umbral Era content. Before Yoshi and pals took over the game, it really looked like they didn't have much intent at all for much in the way of narrative. Reviews for the initial version of 1.0 often complained specifically about this, how the story consists of just a few basic setups for possible conflicts and then just threw the players into a barrage of Leves and crafting content. From everything I've looked into, it really can't be underestimated just how little there was at launch. Dalamud? Post-Yoshi. The moon cults? Yoshi. Nael von Darnus? Yoshi again. Gaius van Baelsar? All Yoshi all the time. It's frankly bizarre just how much was added, and how little was there before.

Part of the original intent for 1.0 I think was more of a 'lore but no story' approach.

To go back to the original focus of this post I would honestly love to see something like that or even a 1.0 classic, but I just also think it's not in the cards.

Having intent in the way of narrative =/= having the main story carry you through the leveling process.
The game was barely functional. If the current team can only focus on so much at once, the same applied to the old team, as bad as the internal communication was. There was little time before the leads were kicked out, and improving the playable experience was certainly a higher priority than the narrative.

The last cutscene pre Yoshida hinted the Path of the Twelve and Circle of Knowing stories were going to converge, when we see the now-Scions reunited for the first time. The 3 starting stories did exactly the same as the current starting ones do, introduce you to Eorzea, the threat of the garlean empire and the city-states' localized drama. The diference being they had very different internal issues that weren't just 'bad ascian man manipulating evil people'. It's very easy to say they were never going to pick up from what we saw of the nations' subplot again when they were never going to get the chance to do so in the first place.

Things weren't also helped by the fact how the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami kind of interfered with the storyline as well - datamining in 1.0 has uncovered how the story was going to continue post Futures' Perfect quest (the last available 'Path of the Twelve' main scenario quest in 1.0), where the player eventually ended up encountering Titan fighting the Company of Heroes - Leviathan's model was also found but had no story connected to him at that point.

So it's clear a lot of the abandoment of 1.0's original storyline was simply due to SE deciding a story featuring Primals that created earthquakes and tsunamis was understandably just a little too close to home at that point in time for Japanese players, and so were put aside, and eventually once Yoshi decided to replace 1.0 with '2.0' (ARR), it was ultimately abandoned, being kept aside for inclusion in ARR. Once the 'Seventh Umbral Era' events began in earnest, the old story just kind of became irrelevant, a legacy of the 'bad times' of 1.0's original direction, so no wonder it ended up being abandoned.

yeah the 1.0 game was built in such a way that it was impossible to get onto consoles. a PS3 would have likely just bricked itself trying to keep up so it all got totally rebuilt from the ground up. which given the speed it was done it was pretty amazing
