Rather than not needing Dalmasca, it's more like Gabranth realized it was a lost cause. His field notes say that after losing Bozja they were getting attacked on all fronts, so I think he knew Dalmasca wasn't going to stay under his control. At that point it's better to cut your losses and get out while you still can, so he faked his death so he could work on his plan with those new weapons without being hunted and assaulted by the resistances.

Also yeah I'm bummed that this stuff was off screen. They could have made it the ending cutscene. Oh well, it's still a cool development.

At that point it was probably better to run off, regroup, and chase the bigger prize. Given the weapons they excavated it'll probably lead to the next relic weapon series, which I'm fine with. There's still a lot of dangling plot threads in there.

So basically everyone in Garlemeld is doomed.

The special instance confirmed that exposure to the tempering increases with time, and some are unable to be saved. Given that everyone in the imperial capital seems to have been the first to be tempered, essentially most of the city's population is unsaveable and will most likely have to be wiped out.

On Garlemald:

I expect Maxima and some populares are still alive, and maybe Nerva as well. Maybe it will be picked up in 6.1 and will lead to a Garlemald Restoration weekly quest.

Maxima already evacuated to Eorzea back in 4.x, due to the purge of the Populares. It's entirely possible that he'll go back to Garlemald after it's safe.

So. Predictions for the order of where we go starting from here?

Example.

Sharlayan > Labyrinthos > Radz-At-Han > Garlemald > Floating Islands > Moon?

My guess is:

Sharlayan we go to early, then we get two quest chains as per usual sending us to different zones intended to spread people out during the initial rush. It's no coincidence this happens every expansion.

I suspect it will be:
Branch A: Labyrinthos near Sharlayan. Working with Yshtola and Graha and Krile.
Branch B: Thavnair. Going to check in with Uriangr and Thancred.

Things will reconverge and we'll go to Garlemald, then the floaty island place, thavnair part 2, labyrinthos part 2, the moon zone they showed ups, then the finale in the sixth zone also on the moon that they haven't shown us at all yet like the Tempest.

This is of course all just speculation the only bits I'm confident on are that there will be a split in the msq again early on and that thavnair/labyrinthos are probably early level zones at least in their first halves. But I could be way off.
