6.0 Story Theory (ShB spoilers)

What if, the moon is actually the original world, and the one we are now was the one created by Zodiark when he sacrificed the first half of the population. Which is why the moon is now a dried up husk (mostly) since Zodiark has been sealed away and he's the will of that planet, with Hydalyn being the will of our planet. And the reason why our planet was sundered when Hydalyn attacked Zodiark was because Zodiark created it.

The world we're on is called The Source because it's what the other worlds were shorn from. Further, Zodiark did not create The Source; he restored ("healed") it. The faction that summoned Zodiark wanted to sacrifice the new life on the world to resurrect those who died during the original disaster, as well as those who sacrificed themselves to summon Zodiark in the first place—cue the opposing faction headed by Venat summoning Hydaelyn to stop this. After she defeated Zodiark, she decided the best way to protect all life from Zodiark and his followers in the future was to sunder the world, hence the shards.

It's possible the moon in Endwalker already existed pre-disaster or was created during the sundering (so a piece of it, maybe), but I seriously doubt it's the "original world", as that would be straight up retcon.

Actually it wouldn't contradict that much. If what I said was true then the shard we play on could still be the source for the 14. Emet also says that each blow Hydalyn delt to Zodiark split him and as he split so did the world. Wouldn't really be a retcon just not the whole truth.
