So while this is the longest time I've played an mmorpg and I do think it has the longest longevity in the market it is also the most toxic experience in gaming I've ever had and I remember CoD & Combat Arms.
Maybe it's just because most every problem you'll find in ffxiv is a personal one you can't space yourself away from.

Other than that I mainly stay for the family I've made here not so much anything else.

XIV gave me expectations I now expect from other MMO's

Good, mostly consistent story & likeable characters?
    Housing?
    Dungeon content?
    Good music score?
    Nice graphics?
All of these XIV has, no wonder it's rising as a top MMO contender

The character creator is really the only thing I'd complain about- players use mods to make the character of their dreams since XIV character creator shows it's age & isn't being properly updated

My English skills got significantly better since I switched the game language. Now I can even understand Urianger without a translator!

Also it's a great escape from the stressful things in life. I get to virtually be someone else for a short while, and its helped me a lot.

Im a widower now, and at night the place gets very very quiet

FF 14 and its community have been a lifeline in the early hours when i couldnt sleep, or had been to sleep, had..well..nightmares..and couldnt stay in bed.

Met some crazy funny people who knew and understood what I was dealing with , who made sure to keep me amused and engaged. One of those nights was when I FINALLY put ( spoiler name here wont say ) down, to secure Eulmore....they knew that one had been driving me batty and when I finally nailed him, whoops and cheers and merry insults were thrown in chat.a few of them then gathered at Eulmore to welcome me and to ask what took me so long.??

We have been locked down once or twice in Sydney, one of the hardest things when the skies were silent and the world slept was to KNOW that yes there was still a world out there, no I wasnt in a house all by myself with no one else around. Its one thing to finish an expac story or to get through a nasty encounter..its when you get to share that small victory with people, even halfway around the world, that you remember it more.

So yes, after the toxic hellhole that was WOW, the game and its players have been a godsend.

I responded with that because the person answered the question “Has the game positively affected you?” and not the actual question which was “HOW has the game possitively affected you.”

This game was so good to me! I met so many amazing people and made some of my best friends... I log in and get so happy, they're always there for me. In my current rl situation, I'm very alone and don't have friends where I live (I moved to another country, that speaks a language I'm not too comfortable with + the pandemic), and with this game I never feel alone.

Some years ago, I got in a really bad spot emotionally, because of politics and the world situation... I was really anxious all of the time, and this game was a place I could escape and forget about all of the bad stuff that was happening. It was really good for me to escape and let this game make me feel good... Now ffxiv is just a comfortable place that makes me feel happy... All because of the community and the friends I made. It makes me feel at home!

I mean regardless of how small the positivity I feel for the game now I would do it all over again just to meet the same people I have with me now, so I think the game has positively affected me.
It's not really my fault good intentions pave the way to hell.

I- the question wasnt asking IF the game positively affected you, but HOW.

ie, id youve met close friends, gotten into a new genre, or just found something you really like, etc etc.

Ohh I like this thread! I've been playing mmos my entire life and ever really stuck with something as long as I have with ffxiv. I think what brings me the most happiness is how immersive the msq and story of ffxiv is. You have me hooked for a long time if you can provide me with a an interesting cast and excellent world building. I'm like a sponge, trying to inhale every bit of lore I can get. While this was initially the hook for me, the people I've met along the way has helped keeping me engaged. I'm really happy with how laid back and drama free the people I surround myself are. It helps to not take randoms and pugs too serious, makes the game a hell lot more enjoyable. I think having a positive attitude and being invested in aspects that doesn't necessarily involve other players makes for a good time investment. I love glamour, I love bozja, ranking up and feeling like I'm a badass soldier for the resistance, I love casual raiding that let's me keep my sanity (somewhat), I really enjoy the extremes and I often run some dungeons just for fun bc I like the end boss, the music, the mechanics or all above (hello Ala mhigo) I feel like I'm content with the game and can still find happiness in it even after 7 years of playing. And while yes not everything is perfect, it has managed what no other mmorpg has ever done before, make me feel invested in a way that doesn't feel like I need to keep playing for the sake of time investment.
