Glamour Design being the creation of its own problem

I heard that during fanfest Q&A that when creating glamours they intentionally make something on it look bad so it isn't the only thing people are wearing.

If anyone can point me to the exact question and answer to this, I'd appreciate it as I didn't watch and don't have a quote to reference. Regardless, if they don't want people to only focus on one glam- why not just make it GOOD anyway so people have more variety?

Players always revert to items that came out several years ago anyway because without some *cough* ""edits"" you have unnecessary bits and questionable choices that turn people away from wearing it in the first place.

I have seen the Uraeus/Chivalric coat worn by literally every race/gender since I started playing in Heavensward because it's good. Why not just make items good, let players focus on it, but eventually have other options as time goes on? They create a problem that wouldn't be a problem by their own hands by intentionally limiting the appeal.

Where did you hear this? I watched the Q&A- they said they don’t make items too trendy because by the time they actually get around to putting it in the game it will be unfashionable and that will look bad.

They design stuff they think people will like.

Misinformation and/or poor word of mouth. Hence me asking for a quote on it. That makes a lot more sense.

This part is largely down to how everything recent is similar. And quite often comes up on the forums. There's 3 main reasons I think.

1- Why does nearly every body armor since 3.0 come with a full length Cape, long coat or even a full blown gown.

Whens the last time you saw a healer jacket that was literally just a jacket or maybe dalmatia style thing without being full length all the way down to your ankles?

Whens the last time you saw tank gear that didn't have a blooming cape on it or wasn't again a full length coat of fending?.

These are why people keep going back to the old stuff for glamours. Because new stuff just sucks.

2- another issue is much of the newer stuff doesn't even look thematic. Most of the time you see like hey here's a "x coat of striking" it doesn't look like something a martial artist (monk) would wear. Nor does it look very samurai like.. it just looks. Well questionable at best..

Similar thing with how much casting gear doesn't really look like something a red mage would ever wear. It's all to generic.

And 3:- gender bias or whatever you want to call it.. when virtually all healer gear looks incredibly feminine. Frilly cuffs and skirts and the like. Never a pair of trousers or slacks or anything in sight..

All of this is why the old stuff is more popular because notnonly is alot of it more thematic to the jobs / roles. But its also easier to work with.

It's why people frequently ask the devs to stop making everything the same dam stuff. Release some heavy armour without capes or caster gear that isn't full length coats and robes. Etc etc.

Hey now healing and casting gear get slacks. Most of the time you don't notice due to them being hidden under floor length robes or your character is female so they just get a skirt they still can't see due to floor lengthed robes. I'd also love it if they went back taking time to make clothes not make tails look dumb. As I either hallucinated clothes having proper slits and tail hole placement or ARR armor and maybe some HW stuff really did have those things. Then at one point the devs just shrugged and went with it takes too much time or what not.

Off the top of my head: Dohn Mheg, the Grand Cosmos, Matoya's Relict, Paglth'an.

Late Allagan gear at the Wolves' Den.

Neo-Ishgardian and Exarchic sets if open-fronted coats count.

Dohn Mheg does have the other problem, though, that the poster mentioned with still being all lacy/frilly. Still VERY feminine. Also Matoya's Relict is literally just a recolor of the Dohn Mheg sets, so not really a need to list them seperately. Either way, both sets for casting/healing look absolutely ridiculous on my character.

Ive noticed that a lot of the artwork is thematic to Final Fantasy.
    Take the ubiquitous Dodo
the FFXIV version looks nothing like every other image of a dodo on the planet.

Perhaps FF samurai gear is what a NPC FF samurai would wear?
Although i have yet to see any NPC sporting a Subligar yet I am given a very.. gladiator/roman slave set in the early levels because.. I dont know..

Didn't expect this thread to live on after my mistake. But I'm gonna keep wearing lv1 glams and ARR gear simply because Casual Jacket cool... shame about the not so casual bag, layers and the fact that it looks like trash on any race meant to have muscle.

Most gear in this game is made with Hyur and Miqo'te in mind and very little else. They just...scale things up or down for other races. Sometimes it works out well, sometimes it doesn't. The bigger the character, the worse things have the potential to look.
