Why not just give both for weapon coffers for choice and just discard/desynth/sell what isn't wanted? And if that's the best they could do is call you out on your choice of a weapon between 1 hand and 2 hand, that's on them for being sad enough to start something over something that literally doesn't affect them. And yes, the shield and 1hw would stay with blm and whm because they've had them historically, no point in trying to force it on others who've never had it in the first place. (and incidentally, the darklight cowl looks awesome for glam at least)Not sure how much of a programming issue it is, but using weapon coffers as an example, how would a White Mage or Black Mage go about with getting either option? And as minor as it is, people would probably call you out for trolling the party using two-handed weapons, because you're effectively giving up the possibility of damage mitigation through blocking (tryharding) for vanity.
Incidentally, would the one hander and shield combo remain unique for White Mages and Black Mages? Why not the other healers and casters?
I personally don't miss the wonky stages of vanilla A Realm Reborn gearing - as a poor noob, being unable to use gear upgrades because of the silliness that was the Darklight Cowl and such was beyond annoying.
But every step of the way you had canes you could use as well if you didn't want the wand and shield, so it's not like you were forced to use it.

While I understand why they got rid of shields, I don't get why they got rid of the one-hand weapons for WHM and BLM.
I checked WHM's animations with a wand equipped and none of them seemed weird to me. This would also open up more weapons designs for both.
The only reason I can think of is that they're potentially saving them for a new job like how they swapped all the knives and daggers from PLD when NIN was added. :B




WHM's awkward Frankenstein monster stance with staves is largely a relic of the wand + shield era, iirc. That's a minor gripe but they still look really weird stiffly holding their canes straight out in their combat stance.




For aesthetic reason, I personally prefer the smaller Wands cause they don't clip like crazy with a lot clothing.
But hey, it is what it is I guess.
I wish they would just convert all wands and staves into "Conjurer Arms" instead of separating them with 1h / 2h, and deleting their shields.
This way we could still benefit from the sizeable number of wands ingame, especially the two FFXIII collab THM/CNJ arms that are super cool, STILL AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE, despite being completely useless since you can't glam them into anything post ARR.




I really miss the aesthetic of a stave and shield.
They could have made some interesting looking designs if they kept at it.
