it seems awfully low how would i carry on a topic if i only have like 20 posts a day!

"Stop right there, criminal scum! Nobody breaks the terms of service on my watch! I'm reporting your illegal mods, now enjoy your time in gm jail."
A lot of people resort to editing their old posts with a quote from the future post they're responding too. It's usually a good sign you've been on the forums too much that day, anyway, imho.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Reminds me of a quote by a wise person, that I fail at badly:
The trick is to consider your words, make points that matter, and don't expect to counter every argument. Choose your topics wisely.A truly wise person uses few words
やはり、お前は……笑顔が……イイ
Once again, it's "this is why we can't have nice things." It was because of the insanity the Beta test forum degenerated into back in 2013 which forced SE to introduce posting restrictions there, and when ARR went live, perhaps to ensure a repeat of that nonsense did not occur in the official FFXIV forum, posting restrictions were added here too.
As others have said, having these restrictions makes you actually think about what you post and reduces the chances of spam and flame wars (they do still occur, but not to the level of other forums).
Besides, do you really need to post more than 20 posts a day? I rarely if ever hit anywhere near that limit, and it should go without saying the New Player and Technical Support/Bug Report sections are not included in this limitation.
Quality rather than quantity and all that.

Well i like to discuss things which sometimes cannot be done in 20 posts like if i put a single post in all the topics that appeal to me i'd already be out of posts

While having limitation can be discouraging, on the other side of spectrum it also encourages people to post & discuss something worthwhile. Supposedly it also keeps forum moderation easier to handle.
Besides, remove that limitation and then you’ll start seeing forum trolls and horde of mole accounts flash flooding once in a while.
Having anywhere between 20-30 post limitation should be the best middle ground to have, which thankfully is what we have right now.
I think the daily limit is around 15 posts.
Is that right?
What confuses me is when they reset, because it doesn't seem to happen all at once for me.
It's almost like, if I made a post at 5pm it'll count towards my limit until 5pm the next day. When I hit my post limit it feels like I'm waiting for my next post to time out before I can make one more and it sucks.
I just wish the forums informed you of how many posts you have left until reset.
I almost never hit the post limit, if anything I think hitting the post limit is like "yeah you're done today" lol. In some ways I find it nice as I think more often only discussing what I find most interesting, over just a general chatter. (Which isn't to say others can't be annoyed by it, just that it doesn't really bother me personally). I have smashed past the character limit a few times though. Though it's a soft wall more than anything.
