Posting here to say I REALLY hope they don't move Tonberry. That seems incredibly unfair to the large number of us on Tonberry who don't live in Australia?? We have houses, FCs, friends. Out of my whole FC only one person is planning to move because guess what, most of us live in Japan or elsewhere in asia!

Just because Tonberry has the most english speakers, so what? It's not only Australians who speak English. All my FC members who live in Singapore/Malaysia/Philippines think they'll get a worse connection from Australian servers.

Please, just make new servers and offer free transfers and incentives :/

I hope they start fresh on all. Let people move if they want, not force them too. Leave Tonberry where it is. The empty marketboard and opportunity to make decent money gathering and crafting will pad the servers to start.

That's actually easy to quantify as very much true for Philipines, slightly for Malaysia, and about the same for Singapore.

Singapore <-> Sydney 93ms
Singapore <-> Tokyo 80.2ms

Philipines <-> Sydney 233ms
Philipines <-> Tokyo 75ms

Malaysia <-> Sydney 103ms
Malaysia <-> Tokyo 80ms

However, all these come through the SEA undersea cable into Australia, and that is prone to breaking fairly often, with the resulting rerouting and huge time blowouts.

To be fair, the many Aussies that have been playing the game and putting up with this bad connection also have houses, FCs, and friends on their current servers. I've even seen comments on discord from people who are on elemental in particular who would be reluctant to move because the better ping doesn't necessarily outweigh losing this stuff and potentially having issues with low population on new servers, which could then exacerbate the low population issue further.

I think the safest bet would be having a mix of new and older servers. It means established servers that have a high aussie population already bring that into the data center, and encourage aussies from other servers to migrate because there's already a population there. It guarantees that you're going to have people there from day 1 of the new servers rather than having to wait for people to shift across, where a completely new data center you'd need to wait for people to file in.

There also seems like there's a pretty big difference between having to move to a truly new data center where there's nothing really there except what you bring and people being caught in the move who then can jump across to an existing and populated server in their region.

They do. Free. No gil cap. Some chocobo feathers. That's usally the go-to incentives.

Clearly not, otherwise SE wouldnt spending millions of dollars in making a new datacentre. If you want a eastcoast DC, make your voice heard. Bitching in a thread about Oceanic servers aint gonna reach SE ears my man.

There was a time when EU didn't have any servers, and the ones they moved to the EU were formerly NA servers.

Ultimately it depends on how many Oceanic players are on those servers, and how many will be moving.
If it's 50%, they could go either way.
Tonberry is by far the largest server in JP, with 77k (12k active) characters, with the next largest having just 50k (9k). It would not surprise me at all if it has a majority of Oceanic players.

This is true. It wasn't until SB we got new EU servers, and a DC split in SHB.
