Given they haven't announced whether or not its a migration or entirely new means we don't actually know which scenario those numbers are based on, so it's plausible that they also indicate that migration is necessary. Those new sign ups are also a reason in favour of migration, as they wouldn't want to risk such a rare recruitment opportunity funnelling players into low population servers where the play experience could be bad.

There's also a broader picture given that those who have been hesitant to play may likely also have friends who are already playing XIV and those friends may likely not want to migrate to OCE servers for the afforementioned reasons, this is based on chatter from various sydney gaming communities I'm a part of. Which would then mean those potential new players may not be able to play with their friends and not sign up, providing another reason SE will want to really make sure as many OCE players as possible want to move to the new servers.

Is it absolutely set in stone that FC's cant transfer? I read somewhere ( and I may be wrong so please correct me if I am ) that houses CAN be transferred to a new or new home server..did I read that wrong?
    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...nsfer_service/

To start the transfer you can't be in an FC, starting one, or signing up to one.

The housing move is you get a full refund of your personal plot cost and compensation for unrecoverable items that you lose as part of the move. The closest you can get to moving an FC, afaik, is you'd need to pack up everything in your FC into retainers (including individuals packing up their personal chambers), let your FC house auto-demolish to get some of the gil back, then recreate the FC from scratch on the new server grinding up the FC ranks to be able to buy a house again.

This comes under "wait and see", Id guess. Yoshi's team undoubtedly already had a plan in place far in advance of fanfest, so Id posit that what your commented on is already on their minds. That team does NOTHING by halves. I trust them to get this right, so Ill just sit back and wait.

Some communities will be broken up, and that will be sad, but the FF team are always looking long term, so theres that in mitigation. I WILL miss my Kujata family no end, but I will be trading that for a new start and new friends, which is no less than others do when they sign on for the first time.

Besides, I will be able to travel back and forth via DC visit so in one sense, we arent leaving friends behind, just moving to a new neighbourhood. Doesnt mean we cant go back and play with them, we can.

It will all balance out in the end.

Yeah that's where I am. Hopefully cross DC is easy, and doable.

Unless something changes with FCs my current plan is to take over my second roll character from Coerl to the new DC to buy a personal home, and start grinding a new FC, then relo into the personal spot... and leave my current active roll on Faery with the existing FC. Four x level 90 submarines bring in too much gil each day to just demolish. Although likely we have moved on from subs to spacewhales for that, by then.

I think the other big difference to previous server shuffles is (correct me if I'm wrong), they've never moved a server from one DC to another before. So it's not really comparable to either the NA shuffle or when they moved european servers. EU servers were still labelled as EU from the start.

I get that no one here really agrees with me, as most people who bother posting here are not in my position. All I can do hope is that SE does consider the fact there there are plenty of Japan residents on Tonberry.

    They did with Crystal.
Either way I would rather not see servers moved. Because it has implications that could affect me for their next possible data centre location lol.

I also hope they don't move Tonberry. My ping will be worse to Sydney and I prefer not to move to another server in JP.

Among the Asian countries I think probably only Indonesian players who live in the southern part of the country will have better ping to Sydney than to Tokyo. Even then a lot of my Indonesian FC mates mentioned they also prefer to stay in JP server.

Sure, there's reasons for the various ways they could handle the new dc, just like there's also reasons why they didn't announce how it'd work.

I'm also looking at moving but, for example, in one of the uni gaming communities I'm connected to I'm also the only one looking at moving even though we regularly have the issue of not being able to play together. Rather than moving to the OCE data centers, the others are looking at doing the opposite and staying where they are because they'll be able to use dc travel when they want to play with each other. Kinda making that the best option to them as they wouldn't lose anything and don't have enough of a reason to risk/bother with a move.

When ARR started there was already a EU data center . The physical server locations at that time was with the US data center, in Canada.
There was the knowledge that the EU data center would move physically to Europe.

So everyone knew where to go at start up. Some chose to start in US anyway because of various reasons but when the" physical switch" was thrown, no one had a excuse for ending up on the wrong side of the pond.
There were some who complaint of course .

This time it is different i would guess.

In my opinion they should inform us sooner than later what their plans are.
They should flag the servers as OCE servers and/ or make a 'virtual' data center with giving people an initial chance for the transfers . So things can start to get settled earlier .
After the physical data center move another free transfer would let undecided players make the plunge.
