I hope not. I am pretty sure ping will be much worse connecting to Oceania datacenter than JP datacenter when connecting from within Asia.This will be very good if Tonberry and Kujata gets moved to the new oceanic Data Center. It also makes sense because of what other posters have said. Having the most english speaking player population from Asia residing in these two worlds makes it a good jumpstarter for the new datacenter.Hope this happens. I just moved to Tonberry from Masamune because of this very reason (majority english players in Asia) lol
Get an Aussie server but EAST COAST NA is out her suffering NA! The player count greatly outnumbers any now or future subs from AUS...gg
They have to pull servers from somewhere. They can't start a data center with NO users and just wait for months for them to fill up. They will offer free transfers for those who don't want to be in the new DC as well as for those who want to move there. Some people won't be happy. There were plenty of transfers from Crystal back to Aether after the reshuffle. I can't speak for the EU additions because I wasn't on a EU server at the time. They will offer incentives for moving to the new DC with a road to 80 buff.
Seems to me the most logical ones to move In Japan are English speaking ones and not those where they speak mostly Japanese.
How was the housing situation during the EU immigration? Free transfer for those on Tonberry who already own a house to different servers that the housing are already full? I think it would make much more sense to offer free transfer to the new fresh server with free spaces.
With EU, the 10 servers were split right down the middle and an extra 1 added to each DC for 6 each. So there were plenty of people moving from one to the other, it was very much a two-way street.How was the housing situation during the EU immigration? Free transfer for those on Tonberry who already own a house to different servers that the housing are already full? I think it would make much more sense to offer free transfer to the new fresh server with free spaces.
The new servers Spriggan and Twintania had their housing plots locked for a few weeks to start with, to give everyone enough of a chance to relocate before they started fighting over all of the new housing plots that suddenly became available.
Those new servers are still the least populated of all servers though with just 30k (6k active) characters each, the next lowest is Omega with 73k (9k) characters.
(If you mean when EU immigrated from NA, I've no idea, that happened in... 2015/16 I think? I don't know what housing was like then)
With OCE, it's mainly going to be people moving to and from Tonberry, whether Tonberry gets moved or doesn't. But some AUS players do play on different servers, it's not all just Tonberry and Kujata.
So if they moved Tonberry over to OCE, then JP players leaving Tonberry could find empty plots opening up on the other servers that AUS players are leaving, such as Kujata, etc.
But as Layla said, I think it's very unlikely they would open up an entire data center with entirely new servers, and force only the OCE players to all move to a new server. Not only would it seem a little unfair, but you are bound to get some players who don't want to move, they don't want to leave their friends who are staying behind. In order to get enough of the AUS playerbase over to the new data center, they need to give it some grass-roots, and I think Tonberry would be that server to help populate the OCE data center. And depending on the OCE population of Kujata, possible Kujata too.
It's also worth noting that the JP servers arent anywhere near as overpopulated as the EU/NA servers.
JP server avg pop is about 45k (8k), while EU avg is 80k (10k), and NA is 100k (12k). So JP players probably don't find the housing crisis to be so extreme. I know on many EU servers it's not that hard to find a small plot, and the newest servers still have loads of empty plots.

Posting here to say I REALLY hope they don't move Tonberry. That seems incredibly unfair to the large number of us on Tonberry who don't live in Australia?? We have houses, FCs, friends. Out of my whole FC only one person is planning to move because guess what, most of us live in Japan or elsewhere in asia!
Just because Tonberry has the most english speakers, so what? It's not only Australians who speak English. All my FC members who live in Singapore/Malaysia/Philippines think they'll get a worse connection from Australian servers.
Please, just make new servers and offer free transfers and incentives :/
I hope they start fresh on all. Let people move if they want, not force them too. Leave Tonberry where it is. The empty marketboard and opportunity to make decent money gathering and crafting will pad the servers to start.
That's actually easy to quantify as very much true for Philipines, slightly for Malaysia, and about the same for Singapore.
Singapore <-> Sydney 93ms
Singapore <-> Tokyo 80.2ms
Philipines <-> Sydney 233ms
Philipines <-> Tokyo 75ms
Malaysia <-> Sydney 103ms
Malaysia <-> Tokyo 80ms
However, all these come through the SEA undersea cable into Australia, and that is prone to breaking fairly often, with the resulting rerouting and huge time blowouts.

I won't be moving because I'm too attached to my FC, latency be damned -- but I'd be willing to put money on them not breaking up Elemental just because that's where Australians have congregated.
I give up with you people. Forum community is absolutely unhinged. Imagine joining my alt's FC just to wait for me to come online to harass me lmao.
To be fair, the many Aussies that have been playing the game and putting up with this bad connection also have houses, FCs, and friends on their current servers. I've even seen comments on discord from people who are on elemental in particular who would be reluctant to move because the better ping doesn't necessarily outweigh losing this stuff and potentially having issues with low population on new servers, which could then exacerbate the low population issue further.Posting here to say I REALLY hope they don't move Tonberry. I think the safest bet would be having a mix of new and older servers. It means established servers that have a high aussie population already bring that into the data center, and encourage aussies from other servers to migrate because there's already a population there. It guarantees that you're going to have people there from day 1 of the new servers rather than having to wait for people to shift across, where a completely new data center you'd need to wait for people to file in.
There also seems like there's a pretty big difference between having to move to a truly new data center where there's nothing really there except what you bring and people being caught in the move who then can jump across to an existing and populated server in their region.
Given covid and travel restrictions for JP, I wouldn't count on 6.0 launch but within a year would seem realistic (unless SE stated already otherwise?)
