No more new races? I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of disappointed.

So we all know by now that Yoshi P intends to make this his life's work, which means we'll probably have multiple expansions after 6.0. It is pretty likely that FF14 will have as many expansions as WoW or FF11 over the ages.

Which makes me wonder... Are we seriously getting no more new races for ten or more years? I know that developing new races is not an easy task, but still, I would imagine they would be able to develop a new race every three expansions or so at the very least? WoW is still making new races even in the latest expansion. I hope FF14 will still continue to add more races just to keep things fresh. They don't have to develop totally new skeletons and animations for everything. We could make new variants of existing races that look sufficiently different. Just declaring that we will not get new races anymore (at the male Viera announcement) is pretty disappointing. Hopefully they're just trying to not overpromise too much and we will see a new race in a few years!

This part is why I honestly don’t care about new races anymore. I understood all the starter races not differing too much at the beginning but the fact they’re still all so similar is pretty disappointing. Hrothgar and Viera weren’t even THAT different to miqote and roe, but they couldn’t even implement them without big drawbacks.

If we’re going to get a new race I’d like it to actually be something different. A playable beastman, a quadrupedal creature, something. Anything. But if we’re just going to just keep getting human crossed with x animal, then keep it. Use the resources somewhere else.

I don't think it's fair to ask for new races considering the way gear works in this game. As time goes on, every new race would require several years worth of backlog to work through. FF14 just was never a game for interesting or unique races, to be fair. They play is safe, and even with all the very human looking races you can see there is heavy preference towards a certain.. frame.

What I can see happening is an expansion on character customization. Or, at least I would do so.

Honestly nothing is impossible. Male viera and female hrothgar were little other than a dream for players based on how SE seemed very disinclined to make them...and a few days ago SE literally showed us male viera player models and confirmed female hrothgar will be coming at a later point.

I don't think it's set in stone whether we will get new races or not, but I do think it won't happen any time soon. We cannot hope for it until female hrothgar are in the game and the head options issues with viera and hrothgar are in a far better state. It just wouldn't make sense for more new races to come while others are still in a state of being incomplete.

If the game continues for many more expansions, and I do think it will if it continues its current path, we could get more races but it won't be for at least a few years.

I think what could happen instead is that SE will expand on the current character creation options to give us more customisation features. I do think we'll see stuff like au ra horns no longer being locked to faces far sooner than getting a new race.

I think they should fix the problems with the races we have first before making new ones. Viera and Hrothgar - the hair styles and headgears are still bad. And the hrothgar mess with needing a fantasia to change the hair? Well...

After that they should make more face options (4 each race and only 2 of them are looking good is quite meh) and more customization options like tattoos, beards etc.

Of couse I understand that there is a pandemic still going. But I can dream, yeah?

I definitely want to see new races, but I believe there is higher priority before new races.

First, the graphical engine rework. We all know XIV is bound to get a graphical update, the hardware is not what it was 10 years ago, it's a bit too early to get rid of "PS4 limitations", not everyone has a PS5.
Second, the HD textures, it's the most important point in my opinion as pixelated clothes are attacking my eyes.
Third, the character customisation. Character customisation is quite limited. SQEX wanted to experience with body mass, they did through certain equipment, but it's one of many things to add to the customisation.

For example, they once said it's tough to add new head equipment because they need to check each faces in the game.

New races? Yes, maybe. But there is other priorities.
