    A thought on gathering jobs

    With the drop rates of animal material like horns and skins often being rather abysmal, have the devs ever thought of introducing a Trapper job? Like Fisher, but using made/bought traps like snares, bear traps, nets, and the like. With a knife as a main tool, and a some kind of hatchet for larger prey at higher than starter levels. With baits for the traps, and "traffic points" instead of mining/harvesting nodes.
    I would play the heck out of that class.

    I would play the heck out of that class.
    It gets suggested frequently but I don't see that happening since the items have a chance to drop for every character using one of 18 different jobs/classes already. The game doesn't need an 19th to do the same thing.

    Most hides/skin, teeth, blood, etc are already very cheap on the MB as a result and it doesn't help that the desynthesis changes along with decreased demand due to leveling changes have flooded the MB with cheap leather as well.

    As Brightamethyst says, you can always send combat retainers on hunting ventures to get the items if you don't want to use your own combat jobs to do it.

    In case you are not aware, it's rather important to level up your retainer in the same battle job as your main, and also keep upgrading their gear as well. This allows retainers to gather these items that you're talking about.

    meh Nuts to combat ventures. Some of us enjoy the immersion in RPG's. Heck. My favorite thing about the game is fishing.

    Then technically you're already set since our character come with the knowledge of how to strip useful items from corpses regardless of what job we're currently using.

    It's only lacking an animation to show the looting. I don't see that being added because so many players find it annoying and time-wasting to have to keep looting individual corpses (why most MMOs have switched to auto-looting or at least AoE looting). Not everyone is playing for the RP immersion.

    Such a gatherer job would hopefully remove the RNG out of it.

    I have bad flashbacks of running through the snow and killings hundreds of Yaks to get some milk... o.@

    Combat ventures are only an alternative when you pay the money to have enough retainers.
