    The Blue Griffins

So, I know there's not a whole hecking ton of lore on Griffins in particular in the game, but the cape on the new PLD AF has dual blue griffins facing one another, from what I could tell.

I knew there was a blue griffin A rank in The Peaks, so I went looking.

"Griffins have been bred in Gyr Abania for generations, but the Vochstein family was famous for the quality of its beasts.
The griffins they raised was sought after by all, an' even the royal house had a few “Vochsteins” in its stables. Then the Empire invaded.
Not wantin' the imperials to steal his prized breedin' stock, the head o' the Vochstein family threw open the door to a certain stall. What flew out in a flurry o' feathers an' talons was the biggest, meanest sire what ever hunted the skies."

So, would it be accurate to say that the Vochstein family was also renowned swordsmen? Ala Mhigo is a highly martial country, and they do seem to have churned out quite the adept sword boys in Raubahn and Ilberd. Then there's Mylla and Aldis, who I believe are Ala Mhigans by heritage?

I guess what I'm trying to get at/trying to ask is, is the new PLD AF taking on an Ala Mhigan tone? I know we're not getting more job quests, but man... I wish we were.

I doubt it, griffins are a symbol of ala mhigo but not exclusive to them. Probably more a coincidence than anything, especially since we're getting role quests again and not individual job quests for old jobs.

There will likely be a level 90 capstone job quest for each job just like ShB and these quests will likely be job specific epilogues to the Role quests which might include characters from the previous class and job questlines. This would also be a good place to give out 6.0's artifact gear coffers.

In which case there'd still be no reason for this set to be tied to Ala Mhigo, as it would just be wrapping up paladin/gladiator npc stories at most.

It'd be really weird to have it suddenly swerve into ala mhigo in the capstone quest. That's even assuming that the artifact gear doesn't just come from a vendor after completing the role quests the same way SHB did it.

It wouldn't be that weird. Mylla and Aldis are Ala Mhigans.

Also in the 1.0 questline for Gladiator, you come to find out that the Hellfire Phoenix, J'moldva, was the first Ala Mhigan to climb the Bloodsands' ladders. She nearly died fighting the gladiator who would go on to become Bronze Bull. She let him win to quell the crowd, and to keep her fellow Ala Mhigans safe. The Lalafell gladiator master at the time, Yoyobina, then waived all fees for coliseum participation for any Ala Mhigan that wanted to fight on the sands.

Though I don't really have an expectations on a quest. This is the first I heard they'd be doing 90 capstones. I mean, I'd love for them to do that, but I was under the impression that they said no more job quests at all after SHB.

I can confirm that they did indeed say the non-new jobs are getting lvl 90 capstone quests.

If we were getting a full PLD questline again I could see them tying in Ala Mhigo, but I think with one short capstone quest like the level 80 ones, it'd be a weird choice when gladiator and paladin are only very indirectly associated with Ala Mhigo by virtue of some npcs being from there, with the lore of both being tied soley around Ul'dah. There's not much room to work with there to establish new plot threads instead of tying up old ones etc. Stormblood for example instead of being a gladiator tournament could have been about knight erranting around Gyr Abania to help people in need but we didn't get that then, and it would feen weird to suddenly pivot to ala mhigo in a single quest. Especially when they have monk and red mage as jobs that already have lore ties to ala mhigo more directly.

I just don't see them doing anything with this, and considering in that the artifact sets haven't really been lore/story rewards since ARR, I don't see the new armor set as likely to be tied into the story anyway. (HW was originally tome gear, in SB you got the set from the job quests but it was pretty clearly an out of story gameplay thing as the tournament explicitly had no material reward and nobody gave it to you in an npc interaction.)

The thing about Ul'dah and Ala Mhigo is that they are now linked by leadership friendship. Raubahn and the Sultana are still great chums. PLDs are the sultana's sworn guard. If we get anymore quests relating to them at all, there is a larger than 0 probability that it would have to do with escorting her to Ala Mhigo. Other than that, the PLD questline would have to be completely new, much more so than falling back on the gladiator element of the class.

I doubt they'd want to go down anything like the Heavensward portion of the PLD quests, which were sharply stupid. They're not gonna do more than reference the Sultansworn being bought by the Syndicate debacle, though they could.

I mean, the Syndicate having bought men in the Sultansworn really is the only plotline not tied up, as far as I can remember. The PLD questline closed in on itself completely by the end of Heavensward, and that left them free for the far better tournament arc of Stormblood. They're free to do anything with it, yet again.

It'd be cool if they roped Gerolt into the 90 capstone, maybe have him reforge/temper Frenzy for Aldis, since he's the one that made it.

Funnily enough, the Vochsteins and the Blue Griffins return in 5.55

in Zadbor if all places. Papanga, the adopted lalafell daughter of the last bloodborn Vochstein master works as a beast master for the IVth legion, fought in skirmishes. We also see the Blue Griffins she raised and is quite attached to, sending them away before they are killed. Further information about her and how she got adopted is in her field record which I do not remember.
