Would you rather they had made tiny dragon men, or giant dragon ladies? Because I can tell you just from looking at and this very thread (and the current femroe population) that almost no one would have played either.

not the same tbh, vieras are also tall but quite popular even taking all the restriction in consideration.
tall female races can be popular too when done right. most of the tall races are just... not everyone’s cup of tea. (very weird proportions/animations, fem roes looking like men in some armor)
i‘m pretty sure that one concept art of female au ras would have also been pretty popular imo.

I like that they're tall. I'm not particularly interested in another drastic size difference for a playable race. Especially with niche aesthetics being just that - niche.

Completely agreed. Difference though is even a more niche male viera would be more popular than a femroe. Femroe are just objectively ugly, just their whole design. Same kind of thing with Elezen, where if they had better proportions they would be a much more popular race.

Actually, the figure and head sizes are calculated with a ratio. Even if you took a female viera and shrank her down to min AuRa size, her proportions are smaller overall, but look the same as a taller viera.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. In reality, people's heads are generally around the same size whether they're tall or short. And with the current limits on height sliders (about 10% difference from largest to smallest size) short characters have smaller heads than tall characters, but not by too much. But widen the range of the height scale and you make that difference in head size bigger too, to the point that it looks "wrong".

I'm not sure of the exact heights for your Viera and Au Ra example but if a normal Viera is 185cm and minimum Au Ra is 140cm, that's a 32% difference. The Viera's head will be only two-thirds of normal size and she clearly won't be a short Viera but a shrunken-down Viera. She wouldn't look like she's at the right scale compared to the rest of the characters around her.

I think Roegadyn would also get away with the wider range better than a shorter character because for the same difference in centimetres, the percentage difference is lower.

Not to call you out but I just think this type of comment is honestly kind of problematic. Masculinity isn’t limited to just those that are gruff, muscular and rough looking. And besides, their appearance is pretty understandable considering the lore about them pretty indistinguishable from females up until puberty.

I‘m quite surprised this seems to be problematic for some, which makes me question if they ever played a ff game before except 14.

That could definitely be the case considering 14 is the first FF game many have ever played. Anyone who’s ever played a final fantasy game should know by now that the series is no stranger to that sort of slim pretty boy/androgynous type of vibe. But I guess that’s why it came as such a surprise for some people.

To be clear, most people who want the height slider to allow a taller option than the tallest female Viera are not against short Viera. What we're arguing is that for tall people who want to represent themselves in this game the options are Orc shape, hourglass lizard with scales, and Elves with small heads and weird proportions (female Viera improved on female Elezen). The system for a wide range in height already exists within the game, make male Viera the equivalent of femroe.
