I'm not the one arguing for player race representation. I am simply stating that a stronger argument can actually be made for having a male player race, on the shorter side, for representation, if we want to argue from that angle.

I stated previously, male viera as they seem to be (on par with females), is a good height range. I personally prefer male characters in that range anyway. They would still be considered above average, even tall.

But if you make them the same size as male Midlander or Miqo'te, then it defeats the purpose.

I'm not against a wide range slider like female Roegadyn.

And I'm not asking for them to be huge like male Au Ra.

I just don't want them to be so short that they blend in with male Midlander and male Miqo'te and you can no longer tell the difference.
Male viera at max height would be considered a tall player race. Using the height slider, I'm sure quite a few players will have male viera as tall as midlander, for that matter.

What purpose is it defeating? Do we need to have forced representation in this game?

It's not the idea that males being shorter than females that's the problem.

It's the fact that max height Viera females are only 4 inches taller than max height male Midlanders.

So if you made male Viera shorter than the females by 2-3 inches, they would basically end up the same size as male Midlanders.

And that pretty much obliterates what could've been a tall, handsome male race that isn't Elezen.

As for why so many players making their female Viera minimum height, I feel like it's because a huge part of the playerbase likes playing short characters. "Miqo'te with bunny ears", if you will.

That's why male Midlanders, male and female Miqo'te, and female Au Ra dominate the population, despite being outsized but the majority of the other races.

This would be pretty much the perfect solution. Either this, or them having a broader range as female Roe do (which is suggestest by OP and was a common wish in male Viera support thread as well, and which, imo, should be available to every race, but here we are) to please more players. That said, their height is most likely already settled down, and is likely to be between Elezen and Highlander.

No, we don't need to have forced representation in this game.

But some of us do want to play a tall, handsome male race that isn't Elezen. That's the gap, That's what we're really missing.

Male Midlander max height, no matter how tall it is in real life, isn't tall in this game.

If the races were evenly represented by the playerbase, it would be much more apparent.

But of course male Midlanders seem tall. That's because there are so many Miqo'te and female Au Ra out there.

This is what I'm working with in my head as well. They did look like they were slightly smaller than the females IMO, and I am all for that.

e: So in my super-scientific testing, they do appear pretty darn close in height. Granted I'm max height, and I have no idea what the SE team used on this boy.

Since they are hunters being really short and skinny doesnt really fit the bill. They should be tall.
Hopefully SE does the race justice.

True, we are rather lacking a handsome tall race. Elezen would have been it but their proportions are way out of whack and their animations stiff. The other tallboys are so far out there in fantasy with their proportions that they're off-putting. So I can see where you're coming from.

Honestly, all of this could be solved if they just added in the broad scale.

Though personally seems like they'll be like Bosmer in Elder Scrolls where the women are taller by a smidge to the point it's hardly noticeable, but it's there.

What about those who want to play a short, handsome male race that isn't miqo'te?

Male midlander is average, and could even be considered above-average at max height. Male viera being taller than a midlander at max height, if they were on par with females, would make them a tall player race; they would be tall in both RL, and in-game. Au Ra males, for example, are very tall, and can be gigantic in comparison to everyone else.

Again, if we are to use playerbase preferences... You realize that many players will drop the height slider to minimum, right? I just don't see this as a strong argument for anyone to make here. The only way for this "handsome, tall" male race to be properly represented among the playerbase is to force the issue. To not allow this race to be short - shorter than max-height midlander, for example. Even then, if the playerbase prefers to play smaller, or shorter male characters, this does not necessarily mean they will be proportionally represented among the playerbase. Players will just simply choose to not play it.

I wonder if something like this couldn't set a precedent for making the height sliders more extreme for the other races.
I think it'd be funny to suddenly see uncomfortably large Lala running around, or almost chibi size Miqo'te.

    Agreed.

I also have my doubts that a lot of the same people pushing for short viera men are actually going to play one themselves. It reminds me of how female roegadyn are praised vocally on the likes of Twitter and Reddit but you see so few of them in-game or listed in official race/gender census statistics.
