The area exists underground, so it's a completely artificial sun and sky. The music is trying to make you feel like it's all a wind-up, clockwork, mechanical area and it does that very well.

It may be a bit hard on the ears but if it is you can adjust the volume. It's unlikely you'll be spending a lot of time there once you're done with the quests.

It definitely stood out. I don't mind unsettling, weird music at all (heck the Moon theme from FF4 is one of my favourite tracks of all time) but it just sounded sort of unpleasant as is. My biggest concern with it from the tiny amount we heard is more that I don't know if I want to be listening to that for the entire time I'm in a zone questing, exploring, etc. 5 minutes might be okay and mood appropriate. 5 hours maybe not so much.

It's not really the same, but it kinda strikes me in the same way as this old song:

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
