As I said on my thread, if the local language is a problem, I'm willing to translate the game to PT-BR for free if Square Enix brings a DC to South America. We would really appreciate this, cause we're all spread over the NA servers, which unfortunately has a very high ping, thanks to the routes distances.
The sentiment is appreciated but this is actual insanity. You wouldn't just have to translate every Main Story Quest conversation and quest journal, but also translate every single sidequest, every log entry, every flavour text for each item, every single FATE name and descriptions, every skill name and description, every NPC chat both during instances and overworld, every lore file both overworld and in dungeons.
And that's not even the worst of it. A lot of NPC conversation changes as you progress through quests. SPECIALLY Scions and co. small talk. Just during the course of one quest if you talk to any NPC inside Rising Stones their conversation changes at least 3 times depending if you are at the beginning, midway or finishing the quest.
Also, it's not just a task of translating verbatim since there are a lot of idioms which meaning is lost in translation, not to mention stuff like FATE and item description which also have a lot of puns and clever wording. Those require extra time to translate.
Just Shadowbringer's English localization, it took a team of 8 people working a minimum of 1 year to do all this work while ALSO continue to localize the patches that happened between Stormblood and Shadowbringers. And this is all asssuming there are no uncredited interns on the job too.
And you are talking of localizing 7-8 years of content all by yourself for FREE, meaning that you'd also have to have a job on the side to sustain you?
This is a tad disrespectful of the work and effort of the localization team. It's not something easy or trivial, it's a job, not a hobby or a fan project.

are you a doomsayer or something? he never said the he would translate everything in 24hrs or something, ill help if needed easly i can translate a questline in a day no worries, i know that for a fact since im doing translation on other games, why people try to tear other people down, instead of comment something productive, its easy to say it cant be done, just say the truth, that YOU wouldnt be able to do it, so you think other people cant do it because you are better than everyone else. The sentiment is appreciated but this is actual insanity. He didn't say that, and neither did I. Let's discuss what people said instead what we think people said.
Alright, let's follow this line of thought. There are currenly 722 MSQ. At the pace of 1 quest per day, we are already looking at a 2 year project (let's assume FFXIV dies and no new expansions and quests are released in the meantime).
Now, let's take a look at the sidequests. The only concrete number I could find with a quick search was for ARR in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...e_in_ffxivarr/. But let's just work with that for now. Between Levequests, Sidequests, Beast Tribe Quests, Class quests, and raid quests, the number comes to 1800 quests. Again, just from ARR. So that's another 5 years of translating 1 quest/day. We are at the 7 year mark now, almost as much time as the game has been going for. Not looking that easy now is it?
Saying "LOL I'll translate 8 years worth of content for free, it's easy, I do it as a side project" is very disrespectful of the time and work of the people that have been doing this for the past 8 years as a job. You are essentially saying that their job can be done by anyone for free with very little effort.

I too am a Brazilian player, and the ping issues can be felt even while doing main quest content, and, as others pointed, creating a data center in US east, like WoW's Latin American servers, would be ideal money-wise. But, in my experience at least, there is a vocal minority of elitist players who would (probably) not migrate, there is still somewhat of a mongrel complex within some of our folks. I'm all for the data center though, count me in!
I'd be curious to hear in what regards his math was wrong? And how long you'd realistically estimate it would take you?
Infact, why not do a little experiment - grab a quest(line) of your choice, translate it (make sure its both an accurate translation, aswell as a good and "natural" read!) and see how long that took you... then scale it up.
Translation work isnt as easy as you might think it is - I'm not sure how much experience you have with actually translating things... its one thing to speak two languages, its a different thing to translate text from one language into the other one. I havent done any real translation work myself, but during the past year my mother asked me a couple of times to translate maybe half a word-page from german into english. Took me about 2 hours each time and afterwards my friends who are native englishspeakers where kind enough to point out the mistakes I made (mostly stuff that was along the lines of "You're not technically wrong, but it sounds wrong - here is how I'd say it..."). During the translation process I often thought "It would have been way easier to just write this myself with a list of important bulletpoints" - but of course you cant really do that when its about being accurate...
Bottomline: Translation and localisation isnt as easy as you might think it is. In order for a translation to work, everything would need to be translated - they'd hardly put in the MSQ and nothing else, so keep that in mind when you come up with your own estimate...
Infact: Why not start a fanproject, where you translate everything the game has to offer so that spanish speaking players could at least look at a transcript (...or maybe there are even ways to... magic wand the speach bubbles ingame...? I dont know if such modifications would be possible, but it might be something you could explore?)
