Renaming Final Fantasy XIV to Final Fantasy Online

    Hi fellas

Just curious if is a good idea that they change this or future Final Fantasy MMORPG to something more simple and not numeric, like "Final Fantasy Online", i think that way, the game is more a plataform service of the brand and can be updated and prolonged without changing drasticly the name, like FFXI to FFXIV, is more condensed in my opinion... what do you think about it?

I really have no issues with how they decide to name their games.

I mean when your Final Fantasy Online reached the end of its life (and all mmo's do) is it your proposal to name it Final Fantasy Online 2? In which case, how exactly is that different than their current naming convention?

Is because is in another category from the offline numeric games... i think this kind aof game that can serve as tematic for others Final Fantasy Games must be considered as a branch for the main brand, have diferent style of game (MMORPG vs Offline single player game) and in the future could be helped.... but is just a curios thought that through my mind...

Sakaguchi (FF creator) and Hiromiki Tanaka (lead Dev for FFIII, FFXI and XIV 1.0) fought with upper management back in the Squaresoft days about XI's branding, they convinced the company to give XI it's mainline entry status, something that was then considered a given when XIV entered Development. ARR literally would not have happened (because the fact it was a numbered FF meant it's failure was non-negotiable it had to succeed by any means which eventually led to almost the entirety of SE's game Dev output be all hands on deck to help with the ARR rebuild.) had Sakaguchi and Tanaka not fought and won their argument for why the MMOs are worthy of their numbered entry designation. And it always irks me that FFXI has had to tank constant conversations of "the MMO FF(s) doesn't/don't count" for nearly 20 years now when the Father of FF that people look up to has been clear about this matter since FFXI was in development.

Bad idea, FFXI is also online. A future new FF MMO might be also online. So why calling this one here or a future one online? Makes no sense to me and the numbers are something of a trademark of FF so it's something people recognize and know.

yeah, but is a numeric game with online attached, in the future i think they could use just the brand "FINAL FANTASY ONLINE" and if in the future they want to change to another engine or another mmorpg then call it Final Fantasy Online 2 , the point is, and this is just a silly thought, they could separate the Online Game from the Single/offline game, for future references...

FFXI and FFXIV are two different games running concurrently, though. So it'd be weird to have FFXI, an online game, and Final Fantasy Online, and then whenever they make their next MMO (XVII or XVIII or whenever) it'll be weird to have three online games, but only one called FF Online.

As for making a separate platform or launcher for their online titles, a la Battle.net, I'd be okay with it if they did it well. Playonline is awful, and the Mogstation is barely better. It would be nice to have all the online SE titles in one easy-to-use launcher but I just have my doubts that SE can pull it off.

"Online" is used in advertising a lot.

FF11 is actually still running, so it would be a problem to call FF14 that.

The long and short of it is that they didn't want it to be seen as a spin off.

Calling it 14 honestly is what kept me away from FF14 for so many years. Giving it a numbers make me assume that they will give up on this MMO someday. My guess is Eastern developers will never understand why Western players feel this way.

Final Fantasy Online makes a massive amount of sense to me because it makes me assume that we might get graphical engine updates someday or actual UI updates someday.

Calling it 14 leads me to assumption this MMO is basically stuck in time and never really changing that much from the original formula which is very successful to be fair.
