Well, Fanfest came with the Endwalker preorder information, which was both expected and welcome! Also expected, and much less welcome, was the Square Enix online shop becoming unusable along with the announcement. Lots of people (me too!) were unable to purchase the Collector's Box before it sold out, as the store was inaccessible. The FFXIV official twitter account's post about the Collector's Edition didn't come until after the box was sold out.
That's a lot (seriously, a lot) of people who tried to pay the 190USD and couldn't.
Of course, scalpers are already listing the Boxes they managed to get.
This is not a great business practice. I understand wanting to have limited runs. But I seriously doubt the physical goods are already manufactured. Wouldn't it be better to simply leave preorders open for a set amount of time? That still creates a limited edition, and increases the amount of money Square receives, and helps cut down on the amount of scalpers.
This was expected, but still very disappointing. I was very excited for the artwork and pin especially, but couldn't even get the online store to open until after the Box was "sold out."
