I don't understand why they don't want more races

More races = $$$. It's not rocket science that mmos do this to increase sales. I get why they struggle with making them, but I still don't get why they outright refuse. There's still niches that aren't fulfilled in FFXIV.

We don't have another small race. Lalafells are all alone. A small rival to go with the Lalafells would be welcome.

We're also missing Lupin, but I guess with the lack of females being seen, I could see that rabbit hole repeating the Viera and Hrothgar situation. Still, It is such a shame they won't want to add at least a few more down the line. The race ideas we have left are incredibly unique and cool. Baanga would be amazing even if they are an incredibly difficult thing to implement.

It's not that they don't want more races, but that rigging gear for another set of models is intensive, and going back through all the existing gear that's amassed over the years and remodeling every piece for the new race is just... I'm amazed they're still tackling that with male Viera and female hrothgar TBH.
It's not that they don't want them, but ho boy is it a prohibitive amount of work...

Can we please stop with this damn misconception that they'll have to make all the existing gear fit the new races? The last 2 races they added, Hrothgar and Viera use the male Roegadyn body and female Midlander body respectively, they had to do ABSOLUTELY NO EXTRA WORK for the gear, the racial differences are simply achieved by bone scaling.

When they make a chestpiece for female characters for example they do not have to make one for every single race. They all, with the exception of Lalafell, use the female midlander body, so they have to make exactly 2 of that chestpiece for female characters, one for potatos and one for literally everyone else. Granted for male characters they have a few more, midlander, highlander and roegadyn, every other race uses one of those 3 bodies.

Lalafell is a bit of an exception because sometimes the armor is the exact same model for both male and female and sometimes it is not.

The extra work they do have with every new race is voices, character customization, race/gender specific emotes, and the walking, running, sprinting, etc animations and I'm not gonna claim that this is easy work, but it is certainly less work than remaking every armorpiece in the game.

And... the gear doesn't need to be changed at all to fit over a different set of bones???
They're not making a new piece of armor, no. They're changing the ways it's able to stretch and move so it's able to be shaped to the models properly because the way FF14 does gear when you wear boots, for example, your feet disappear and are replaced by the boots fitting over your models bones.

I never said remaking. Thay was your word.
    I said remodeling.

Nope, they don't. Same body, same rigging.

I will strongly doubt that. The easiest example for this is to check how the Summer Indigo Shirt unbuttoned segment shoots outwards on Hrothgar due to their default stance.

Nope they aren't. Again, see Hrothgar's Summer Indigo Shirt

I don't understand what the Indigo Shirt is supposed to show me. Can you elaborate?

Do they need to check that it doesn't clip on some races? Probably, but that is not as much work as you might think when you can scale the bones in real time in pretty much any decent 3d modeling software and even test the animations before even exporting the model.
Also most of the models have very few areas where they even can clip, since armor pieces simply replace the body parts they're covering, so your chest can't clip through your chestplate because your chest isn't being rendered by the game anymore.

and that's how you had weirdly stretched chestpieces on fem roe and highlander especially if the chest size happened to be above 75...

    From Yoshi-p himself:
The Cost of Developing a New Playable Race – In a Fan Festival keynote speech, I stated that this will likely be the last time we add new playable races to FFXIV. To put it simply, a tremendous amount of time and resources are required to develop one. I’m sure you all understand that a new race will require new faces, hairstyles, bodies, and other assets. In addition to this, they need to be capable of equipping all existing items—this alone requires a massive commitment of resources. Each race has a unique frame and body type, and so every piece of visible equipment needs to be carefully adjusted to display properly on Hrothgar and Viera models. A cursory search will show that FFXIV has around ten thousand equippable items already implemented, all of which must be manually modified by our designers. This is an immediate and unavoidable development cost incurred when adding a new race.
The addition of new playable races will impact more than the development cost of the items added in 5.1 and subsequent updates. Not only will we be transitioning from twelve variations (six races, two genders each) to fourteen, but we will also need to commit more resources to the development of new emotes. While FFXIV will continue to strive to maintain a regular 3.5 month major update cycle, we must also ensure that sufficient time is secured for the meticulous development of new content—or else the quality will invariably drop. This is a complex problem that can’t be solved simply by throwing more money or people at it, as it impacts both debugging and QA.
