Eylmao, can't wait to see those complaint threads if they do.Since Reaper is sorta toeing the necromancer line, it'd be interesting if it were to be a Melee DPS with a raise of some sort. It would need to be on a long cooldown, or reaper would need to utilize MP in some way, but it'd be a novel utility for a Melee DPS to have when it's been the realm of casters for so long.

I would love it if Reaper got a rez. That would tilt me over to maining it almost immediately on it's own (at least until I got access to it and a training dummy).Since Reaper is sorta toeing the necromancer line, it'd be interesting if it were to be a Melee DPS with a raise of some sort. Also, please, please, give them (and everyone else that doesn't already have it) an aoe at level 15.

You want the melee to hardcast rez?
I think a different rez mechanic would be interesting. Requiring a full gauge, no or short cast time and essentially uses the voidsent to "rez" a target player. That player is then treated as being under living dead for 10 seconds or so. Thus allowing bringing back a dps in a critical burn phase but still requiring healer input if that dps is to stay up. Throw in a pretty hefty cooldown to prevent abuse.

Sounds like a rez that nobody's ever gonna use tbh. Take it off the hotbar and keep rolling with the mighty Red Mage in your squad instead.I think a different rez mechanic would be interesting. If I recall correctly when they announced the role quests they said they'd be for melee physical, ranged physical and magic DPS. Currently though, the DPS sub-roles are called melee DPS, physical ranged DPS and magic ranged DPS.
It could be nothing, likely is, but adding that physical qualifier to the melee and dropping the ranged one from magic while adding a voidsent summoning melee job.
I wouldn't say I'm set on the theory yet, but maybe Reaper will be classed as a Magic DPS, and get Magic role actions like swiftcast as a result.
Alternatively maybe I'm reading too much into how they phrased the role quest confirmation and nothing changes DPS sub-role wise. They could just give it a rez that works differently though, no real reason it couldn't be an instant or quick cast on a long cooldown for example.

It's Melee Physical and Ranged Physical. Two different Physical roles.
Reaper is going to be sharing gear with Dragoon, it's not going to be a different role to it.
I don't really understand where the connection between reaper and necromancer comes from.Since Reaper is sorta toeing the necromancer line, it'd be interesting if it were to be a Melee DPS with a raise of some sort. There similarities between them thematically ofc, but (grim) reaper has nothing to do with being able to raise the dead or anything like that. They reap souls. The void avatar is not some undead that reaper raises. That's what a necromancer does, and that's a very different and already existing job in the game.
Putting that aside... DPS jobs being able to raise is a bad idea in the first place IMO, unless you give it to a whole sub-role (ranged, caster or melee), which also doesn't make sense.
It has only created difficulties within the caster role, since it easily becomes way to sought after, or not sought after at all (since you need to have some sacrifice for it, like DPS). I also doubt many would want to have lower DPS or rDPS, just so they get to raise people and mess up their rotation. Might seem selfish, but not many would enjoy that. It's already something keeping people away from RDM.
I might end up as a Reaper main because as a long time SMN main, I'm super jelly of how detailed the summons look compared to my featureless blobs of cute. It depends though, on how the play feels. Either way, I will level it and Sage to cap for sure!
