The second I saw the Lunar Whale mount on "sale" I got flashbacks of Fallout 76 when they tried to pull that "sale" crap on items that had never been released before.

To be fair, I was expecting the whale to be around $50. It is almost $10 cheaper than that, plus a small temporary discount. For me, that is a win/win.

Only reason they get away with it is because of the content schedule. I mean obviously this is straight up cashing in on nostalgia but they are pushing the limit of what they can get away with in FF14. If the content wanes or the next expansion sucks and they try this expect a revolt.

Eh, consider that this event is in place of 3 Fan Fests that would have included a hefty chunk of merch sales and entry ticket sales (both of which cost far more than the whale mount and minions). Is it cashing in on nostalgia? Yes and no, given that a decent chunk of the EndWalker expansion seems to be a callback to FF4 it's not there for nothing. Is it recouping a little of the money they may have made during the regular fan fests? Undoubtedly.

People complain every time they add something nice to the mogstation. Would a free lunar whale mount have been nice? Sure, but they decided to make it mogstation, nothing we can do about that. I'm just glad we can actually get the lunar whale.
