Agree 1000%. It seems like a lot of the time, people asking for representation aren’t even a part of the group they’re asking representation for(not saying it’s 100% of the time, just from my experience). It’s just kind of irritating to me because it’s like, i’m gay. Would a gay main character be cool? Sure! Am i begging for it to be added? No. Because usually when that happens their whole personality revolves around being that sexuality. Anyways though in regards to this again, i don’t think it’s necessary. It’s fantasy for a reason, you can play someone you’re not. If it’s not your cup of tea then you can move onto other games. That would be a lot of time, money and man power reworking an already messy code for such a small group. Contrary to popular belief even in the lgbtq community this isn't really as big of a thing as some would have you believe and is just as exhausting sometimes as it is to those not within the community. Its just a very small, usually very young, group that really makes a fuss about pronouns or gendered language. And while it is not a big deal for a new game that could possibly incorporate it into the code a lot easier, not everything can be altered, after the fact, for the handful of ppl whose entire identity revolves around how they are addressed.
If they would want to add it as an option, I would have no issues. But it is way to potentially big and we would most definitely lose content over it, which imo is way more important.
Right its like Dragon Age 2 where if you don't choose to be gay you get the bad red points rather than the good blue points. It's weird. As opposed to a game like Jade Empire, where you would not know there is a gay option unless you answered questions in a certain order and you did not get good or bad points but just 'spoke' or rather choose the dialogue that best fits you.Agree 1000%. You can tell when someone's politics is in your face in a game, it's pretty obvious, but when something happens naturally its a beautiful thing.
Jade Empire did such a lovely job making it so the option was there, but it was not pushed to you as opposed to Dragon Age 2 which literally had multiple characters sexually harassing you the entire game.

If you play your character as a trans woman then why is it a problem to be referred to as '' lass ''?
If you want to play as a trans character you can simply think of '' sex '' as gender at the character creation and that solves all of the problems.
I think you only enter some problematic territories in regards to this if you're playing a non-binary character or something but I mean cmon, even irl people are going to judge you as one gender based on what they see.
The character in-game don't have mind-reading powers either.
My original confusion was before the OP went into more detail. In where at least to me and maybe a few others it was a trans person who identified as female having picked a female character having then a problem with being called by a female pronoun. Not with the extra bits the OP gave in response to my original response. I was having a hard time figuring out where the problem was and had thought that maybe I didn't know something due to me not knowing anyone who was personally and just never being up to date on a lot of issues let alone terminology.
A niche feature for a niche audience. No thanks.
I wouldn't be opposed to allowing players to choose their pronouns in character creation but this feature would not be equally effective to all players given not all languages have gender neutral pronouns. French does not have gender neutral pronouns.
Also in English it might lead to confusion in dialogue if the game is referring to both an individual and a group within the same paragraph. If a player chose to have themselves referred to as "they", a gender neutral pronoun, then the dialogue would have two instances of "they" instead of one singular and one plural pronoun which could make the text misleading because it could be unclear which "they" the particular subjects are related to. Some dialogue would need to be rewritten to avoid this sort of confusion.
Additionally the majority of people, as far as I'm aware, are fine with their in-game pronouns matching how pronouns are traditionally paired with character gender. I think only a minority would benefit from this.
Because of the above I doubt it would come to the game. It would be a lot of work for a small target audience and I don't see SE being keen on introducing a feature that wouldn't be equally effective across all client languages.
Again I wouldn't mind if it came to the game. I just don't think it's going to happen.
Not my fault you can't read between the lines. Apache's point was pretty clear.
