You're saying that instead of the obvious myth that the creature comes from, the inspiration behind their asexual-ness was a sudden philanthropist drive by Square Enix (multimillion videogame company) to pick a side in 2020 gender politics.
Occam's razor says it's just abiding to the myth, until I hear the writer make a statement that says otherwise.

This isn't directed to you specifically, but essentially the discussion here boils down to one side retroactively assigning new meaning to old words and concepts, and trying to strongarm others into subscribing to their worldview, and the other side responding with "Stop harassing the developers, please".

I mean, Yoshi-P himself had to make an official statement on these forums telling people to stop asking for "childlike male viera", and right under fanfest, like clockwork, here we go again with the same bs that is going to be echoed by the usual suspects like Kotaku and RPS. It's not by chance that these threads happen right around this period.

This is an obviously untenable position. Exceptions are exceptions. Especially ones that cover 0.0006% of cases, such as the intersex cases you're alluding to. (Most of which don't quite like it when you use them as a cudgel and speak for them by the way)

I'm saying that if someone wants to believe that, it doesn't matter. Unless you yourself are fairy, I don't get why you care so much about what other people think about something that isn't related to you.

I personally think having a system to choose a pronoun separate from the sex of your character is a waste of time, even in a brand new game, purely for the logistical reasons that people have already mentioned. It's really not worth a lot of the effort considering the few amount of people who would take advantage of it. It's obvious that they're never going to add this, but I'm not sure the topic deserves the level of vitrol or conspiracy theories.

Literally no one asked you to jump in this thread. If you didn't see it or didn't get involved, you'd probably be much happier and keep hitting dragons with swords. If people learned that that they can ignore threads that don't personally affect them, the forums and internet in general would be a better place.

I speak for everyone when I say that we do not care about the sexuality of the players, if I have to refer to a stranger in a dungeon or any area of the game I am going to refer to the sex of the character, do you want me to tell you otherwise? Well, tell me and that's it.

PD: In any case, in the story I think it would complicate the dialogues too much and I doubt that Square intends to get so complicated by this

First off, nobody is talking about you. You are not the discussion here. The topic is about NPC conversations, which is what square can actually control.

Second, "fuck you"? Really? That's some toxic stuff coming from somebody who is clearly highly offended over absolutely nothing.

Furthermore, whenever businesses have sought to make things more 'accessible' there's inevitably demands for even more inclusivity. Instagram, for example, recently allowed people to pick from one of 41 different pronouns. It wasn't enough and Instagram was quickly accused of 'not being inclusive enough'.

I think that a line needs to be drawn somewhere, as I see it. I may be gay, for example, but that doesn't mean I need a gay character to be present in every game that I play. Even ones where I can create my own character.

There's nothing more important when it comes to character creation in an MMO than identity. I don't see any problem allowing players to select their preferred pronouns, and it should not be prohibitively difficult to create something like this in the code. I don't see my character as an extension of myself, really. What similarities exist are entirely coincidental.

I think it'd be a good thing if more people distanced themselves from their character, anyway - especially since there's no shortage of individuals who get incredibly offended if an NPC offers anything other than praise and adoration to their precious self insert.
