How was I able to skip 12 people in line for leveling roulette yesterday?

Leveling my red mage, I saw practically the rarest thing in the game. Leveling roulette had DPS in need so that was my next roulette. It was about 12:30 PM.

When I queued, it said "Role waiting list number: 21" and I was like, "21st in line is not a DPS in need"

However, within a few minutes, that 21 became 12 and the queue popped when it said "Role waiting list number 12" which surprised me because I was 12th in line.

Why was I able to skip the 12 people ahead of me? That has NEVER happened before.

I usually frequently have something like role waiting list number 17 or something and it goes down to role waiting list number 1 in a few minutes but then I spend 15+ minutes as role waiting list number 1, but I have NEVER had the queue pop when I was 12th in line.

I am not complaining, I am just curious as to why I jumped the queue?

The duty finder's priority is making groups. Your position in the queue is actually the least important factor for how the match making works.

For Example: If your RDM is level 66 and 21st in the levelling roulette queue, but the 20 people ahead of you are all level 63 or lower. Then let's say a 66 WHM comes along and directly queues Doma Castle (level 65). Well there you go the 20 people in front of you don't qualify for that duty and you do. So assuming there’s also a tank and another DPS that qualifies. You'll get matched into a duty while the 20 people in front of you are still waiting in the queue.

This works both ways though. You might be number 1 in the queue but still a level 66 RDM and if that WHM queues Castrum Abania (69?) then the duty finder will pull the first 2 69+ DPS out of the queue and put them in a duty before you even though you're first1 in the queue because you don’t qualify for that duty.

Then you have parties.. If a WHM queues for levelling roulette with a DPS friend and a tank also queues for levelling roulette with a DPS friend, then chances are both of those DPS will jump the queue and get into a duty before you even if you're first in the queue.

It's quite common to jump the queue though, especially as your level gets higher. It’s one of the reasons many players miss the DF ding. They see they’re 20th in the queue so think they have time to go make a sandwich or use the bathroom and ding!! come back 3 minutes later and find they missed it and have to queue again.

The other point to consider is that, yes, "Adventurer in Need (DPS)" was active. Given the number of people who play the game concurrently, it is not particularly surprising that at 20+ people might select the roulette, given the bonus. All in the space of 60 seconds (or whatever time frame "in Need" refreshes, 'cuz it ain't immediate).

There are a lot of DPS out there. Congrats on the shorter queue.

Hint: You want mostly immediate queues? Join a roulette as a healer. Be prepared and power through hoping the insanity will not result in that "I'm disappointed in you" look from the tank and DPS.

It's not fake. It's happened to me too. Queue popped while I was #11
