The thread title explains it all: one-gil undercutters are the sole reason market prices crash. Here is exactly what happens:

Normal, non-selfish person price matches a listing

Selfish, self-serving one-gil undercutter then one-gil undercuts said non-selfish person to make his listing top of the page. Because his ego and unwarranted self importance says 'he's more important than everyone who was here first.'

Normal person sees this and, rightfully so, undercuts by 20k to enrage the one-gil undercutter. (And rightfully continues doing so each time he is undercut by one gil again)

One-gil undercutter then proclaims "Oyyyy! Why do they undercut me so..?"

The market would be a utopia if only there were no one-gil undercutters

P.S. While I'm at it, seriously go frick yourself if you think it's a good idea to list lvl 56 armor for 100k.

Because of limited 20 slots per retainer and the sheer amount of trash items in game, you will ALWAYS have people undercutting by thousands to "sell quick". No one wants to keep that house roof in their sell-listings for weeks and weeks. They want it to be sold in a day even if it would bring the hingan roof market down.

If this were to be fixed there should be:

1) More slots per retainer to sell, making even "useless items" worth listing
2) AND/OR Datacenter-wide market to sell stuff quick.

I'd rather deal with people undercutting by 1 gil than people undercutting by 20% or more of the price. 1 gil undercutting is a slight nuisance and barely any money lost. Undercutting by 20% or more is a big loss of profits and is far more annoying, especially if you had just set the lowest price a few hours prior.

People undercut, it's how it works. 'Don't hate the player, hate the game'...or something. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of the MB wars or even the MB as a whole in XIV. It leaves a lot to be desired. I'm also generally far too lazy to play the undercutting game for long, so I'm keen to slash prices just to get things off my list if I have to adjust it more than a few times.

I think adding a listing/adjustment fee to items would help for starters. Adjustments would still happen of course, but it may cut them down to a slightly more normal amount.

Buy/sell orders would also be snazzy. I'm not sure how that would impact big-ticket items, but it could help stabilize the pricing on fast-selling mats.

What logic is this?

That's like blaming the guy on minimum wage who only tips 5%, for the billionaire who refuses to tip at all.

Most people simply aren't trying to play the market, they're just trying to shift their crap, so they price it below the current price to get rid of it. It's the only option you have if you want to sell your stuff.

I undercut by 5 gil always unless someone gets me upset then I'll do more. Live with it. I got rich doing it.
