Thank you for bringing this up. It’s a concept that’s not easily understood. There seems to be a widespread fear that, in order for Blue Mage to become a normal job, it MUST be reworked from the ground up, have the majority of its spells removed, would no longer be learned from monsters, or other nonsense. This is quite simply untrue.Blue Mage can pick up everything it has and bring it over to the normal job spectrum. This is because Masked Carnival, the achievements, Blue Mage log are not dependent on the Limited Job system. It is why I used the housing analogy in the first place, Blue Mage content doesn’t rely on any system. Whether it be limited or normal it isn’t codependent on a system, therefore moving its resources to the normal job spectrum and making it part of the normal job system nothing gets removed, everything will stay there spells included. Will there be nerfs and adjustments? Yes, however I am willing to take that compromise if it means for Blue Mage to be a normal job.
Blue Mage does not need a major overhaul to become a “normal” job and SE has already created the tools needed to make it a reality. In the latest update to Blue Mage, we were given a spell called Basic Instinct. For those who don’t know, Basic Instinct is a spell that greatly enhances the strength of Blue Mage. The potency of healing magic and damage dealt are both increased by 100%, among other benefits. The catch is that it can only be used in duties intended for two or more players while playing alone, to put it briefly.
Basic Instinct is the perfect tool to enable Blue Mage to be a very powerful solo job while simultaneously allowing for it to be balanced when participating in duties alongside other jobs. Simply add “augments certain Blue Mage actions” to the effect of Basic Instinct which enables the “untamed” potential of its more powerful spells when playing solo. Meanwhile, a Blue Mage without Basic Instinct active would have access to the toned down versions of those spells. This would be the “normal” Blue Mage.
But what about the Blue Mage Log? Wouldn’t a toned down, normal Blue Mage struggle to clear the more difficult challenges? Well I have good news because that is not difficult to address. Simply apply a buff to the party when participating in a duty through the Blue Mage Log. Heck, if SE wanted to, they could allow Basic Instinct to be used when entering a duty through the Blue Mage Log despite ordinarily not allowing it during group play. If this is too strong for the latest expansion content, then the Blue Mage Log itself could be restricted to older content. You would still be able to use the Party Finder to create an all BLU team that can challenge the latest content, but you would be going into it without a buff.
I’ve now described how to address those who want Blue Mage to be a strong solo job, those who want to use it to challenge old raid content for the achievement, and those who want it to be a normal job that’s balanced for current content. The best part about all of this is that SE has already laid out the groundwork to make it possible.
