Bit confused on Data Center Travel

Has the development team ever stated what the restrictions to the system will be? Is it going to be like the world visit system that we got at the end of Stormblood or something similar to the ability to form cross-world parties and cross world party finder that we got at the end of Heavensward?

Also are we going to get the ability to add friends cross-data center as well as something like cross world link shells?

From what I remember you'd have to log out and wait a few minutes before you can jump to another data center when visiting

Yeah, it's more restrictive. You have to go to the start screen and move data centers. The lobby servers for each are separate so it's going to be a bigger hassle to change.

• You will have to adjust something out of the game first, so no, it will not be like World Visit.
• This does not mean any cross-data center features will exist, such as cross-DC parties, cross-DC Duty Finder, cross-DC messaging or cross-DC linkshells.
• If these features ever happen, they will probably be put in gradually like cross-world linkshells were.
• The extra restrictions will most likely involve not being able to access more things, such as free company chat, cross-world linkshells, communicating with friends on another data center and certain forms of inventory that can't be carried around with you. You may find all of your friends are (Unable to be Retrieved). These are the most likely restrictions to expect in addition to the ones already experienced with World Visit.

They did let slip something about being able to do "Duties" but never elaborated on that or expanded on it so it almost feels like they haven't locked that in yet and maybe mentioned it without intending to. As others have said, there will be limitations but they haven't really said much about exactly what the limitations are or if those limitations are only time gated until they work the problems out.

I'm hoping we will be able to form parties and actually run content while DC traveling. It would be really wonderful if that happened. Imagine being able to find a raid static to play with on any data center. Even as a 2nd-shifter who needs to raid late at night, that kind of feature would open up so many options moving forward - For both LFM and LFG.

If its as easy to visit another DC as it is to visit other servers, I'm worried about how hunts and special fates will be handled. With just cross server travel, there have been many times when the amount of people was enough to crash the instance. Cross DC travel would just add more people on top of that, and probably crash the instance regularly with just A ranks.

You'll have to logout to move between DCs, as not all of them are on the same subnet. So it'll be subject to login queues and normal delays of logging in.

It wouldn't surprise me if you lose access to FC chat and Cross-world Link shells as that information is saved in another Data Center. There are some other things I thought of, but most are things we don't use or are the same as world visit.
