Being able to heal and do damage is basic competency.
Oh I get that, I even agree with it. Buuut that's often not how fights work. I'm not going to throw out a Holy when I've got 2 teammates who messed up their positioning and are sitting at <50% health. My point is that a healer's priorities should still be healing first and DPSing when the situation allows for it. As I stated before, I personally DPS whenever I can and believe anyone else should also.

At the same time, how on earth is a healer going to worry about their DPS contribution.. when they haven't even gotten the healing part down yet? How about they first do that well, then worry about the DPS, yes? Buuut admittedly, I am somewhat prone to forgetting that you guys most love complaining about the 'malicious' types who are out to get you rather than the honest person still trying to get a proper grip on their job.. so I suppose ultimately it's really a pointless debate.

Yes, healers should DPS, whenever they can. And I agree it should be basic competency, in reality however it is clearly not because the vast majority of healers you all apparently encounter fail spectacularly at it, it should be.. but it's not. I don't really get how to be honest, I actually picked up healer not that long ago with my WHM and I can say, the expectation of 'heal + dps' was for the longest time the primary reason I dreaded the role in FFXIV.. in hindsight I was surprised by how naturally I adapted to it.. the amount of down time you get for it in this game is not something I've experienced the few times in the past that I played healing roles in MMO's.
