    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!

In the specific case of Chocobo Training Manuals, I think the most effective naming scheme in English would be

    Choco Skillname Training Manual

That they are for training your chocobo should be clear from the skill name, and for those where it's not immediately obvious from the name, the item help text can clarify that. There's no need to include it in the name.

The only reason that could possibly justify naming everything "Chocobo Training Manual - Choco Skillname" would be to make the item names appear neatly in a list for the developers in a database or spreadsheet; this is an absolutely horrible reason to adopt any in-game naming scheme. Item names are an interface, and if the UI ellipses item names because they're too long, then the item names need to have the important bit at the beginning because the beginning is all the players will see. And in this case, the important part is the skill name.

For things like equipment, we currently follow the general naming scheme

    1) Replica? SetName Gearslot of Role .. e.g., Replica High Allagan Mask of Casting

If SetName is long--which happens pretty often--that pushes the important stuff even farther off the edge. When buying things from a tomestone or token vendor, all the items tend to start with the same set name. That makes setname super unimportant, because of course that's the set that we're looking for--if we wanted a different set, we would be at a different vendor or in a different menu. The slotname is likewise unimportant because the slot icon at the beginning of the line. So the most important part of the name from an interface perspective is the role. Therefore, the role should be closer to the beginning.

The devs have chosen to work around this by including a job dropdown that filters gear for a specific job. This is definitely something that should stay; but in addition to the filter, items should be named with the role earlier in the name. For example,

Please please please do this one
    2) Role's SetName Gearslot Replica? .. e.g., Caster's High Allagan Mask Replica<< Please please please do this one

Notice also that I recommend moving "Replica" to the end.

Less effective but still better than what we currently have would be
    3) SetName Role's Gearslot Replica? .. e.g., High Allagan Caster's Mask Replica

There are a few sets that use a naming scheme like this (Shire sets, for example), but when they do, they use more flowery in-universe names like "Shire Preceptor's Hat" instead of "Shire Healer's Hat". This is perhaps preferred by people who want immersion, but again, names are an interface, and very few people can tell you which role a Shire item belongs to just from the name, which makes Shire Preceptor's Hat a poor name from a UI/UX perspective.

But really, please just do (2).

    More examples:
    Defender's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Healer's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Striker's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Slayer's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Scout's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Ranger's Augmented Ironworks Earring
    Caster's Augmented Ironworks Earring

Some of you will balk at the misalignment of the part that is the same. That's fine. I understand how uncomfortable that makes you. But this is still the right choice for naming equipment. Names are an interface. It's more important for them to be effective labels than it is for them to be pretty labels.

    tl;dr:

Names are an interface. It's more important for them to be effective labels than it is for them to be pretty labels. Put the most important part (role, skill name) at the beginning so it doesn't get cut off by ellipses.

Role's SetName Gearslot Replica? .. e.g., Caster's High Allagan Mask Replica
