Bahamut and Phoenix are tied together because both of their aether is around because of the calamity. Without phoenix we would have had to wait more years for the next astral periodThat's why I feel it was both smart and worrying that they've moved away from job quests, and removed getting skills from job quests almost entirely. On the one hand, it allows them to rework a job extensively if the gameplay is found lacking, or disliked by the playerbase.
...but then we run into problems like htf is Demi-Pheonix tied to Summoner? At least Demi-Bahamut was explained, but job abilities 71+ just... have no in-game Lore to them at all.
I know Phoenix is a thing and we fought him in T12, but the ability to summon Demi-Phoenix isn't explained from lvl 72 when we get Demi-Phoenix. There's no SMN job quest until lvl 80 and THAT focuses on Arenvald and Fordola. The HW SMN quests went out of their way to provide justification for summoning Bahamut with the whole "the Calamity's aether reached far beyond Eorzea", and for a 1.0 player who didn't finish coil (yeah, I know, that'd be rare) then you were never exposed to Phoenix's aether because Louisioux sent you to the future BEFORE turning into it, and you are returned 5 years in the future. We can headcanon the ability to suddenly go from Summoning Demi-Bahamut to summoning Demi-Phoenix, but the story doesn't even blink at HOW you figured it out.
Job skills tended to have a lot of Lore tied to them, and now they don't, or they outright contradict them like AST cards. Which speaking of AST, THEIR job quests will have to be rewritten to explain whatever the change to Nocturnal Stance is, since their lvl 50 quest has a nod that it's the shielding stance. (Or not, they didn't bother to rewrite the nod that Ewer is supposed to give you magic)

I'd like to see them bring in some form of in-game lore blurbs for abilities, like BLU gets, because in the end, it is an RPG. I don't think they like the idea, for the reason that it makes it harder to then change abilities, but I think with a bit of creativity that problem can be circumvented. E.g. say the ability has evolved over time as the character advances their understanding of the art, and now does Y instead of X. Really, it's not like they go and gut every job's ability set every expansion, and the changes are incremental for the most part, so I see it as a surmountable problem. One could question whether it's a good use of their time, but at the same time they've gone and done it for a job with a very limited PVE role to begin with... as well as many other things. That's why I feel it was both smart and worrying that they've moved away from job quests, and removed getting skills from job quests almost entirely. On the one hand, it allows them to rework a job extensively if the gameplay is found lacking, or disliked by the playerbase.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I think it would be interesting if they took SMN in a similar direction of Ysayle. When we summon an egi we imbue ourselves with its power which gives us a number of oGCDs to use; each egi could have a different theme to its abilities (ie Ifrit drops a couple puddles of fire, Titan gives a few small defense debuffs, Garuda has some aoe blasts, etc.) Its not too dissimilar from what the old egis had with different skills, just more in depth and no separate pet for it. Ysayle showed us it can be done and now with the new tempering lore, we could theoretically do it safely.
It would also give much more room to expand the system instead of the ever longer rotation they're doing now. And if the egi skills don't share a recast timer it could open the potential for some very interesting rotations and weaving through different egis.
I miss that too... sure you can handwave a "we come so far we start to create our own stuff" but still...Job skills tended to have a lot of Lore tied to them, and now they don't, or they outright contradict them like AST cards. "Packs"? That's at least 6 years planned!
FFXIV players hated that.
So, making content easier is not just an issue with the community not being able to complete it, but the devs not having enough playtesters; playtesters at a competent level?
Doubling down on housing plots, as is, rather than better, instanced housing then?
Unfortunate. Very unfortunate. It's the same problem from earlier. Not enough playtesters, or battle designers to create this content. This was probably the best aspect about Bozja.
Thanks, Yoshida!
The problem isn't exp gain though. It's the sheer amount of quests required to reach endgame, not level 80.
I'd like that too. The possibilities if infused with a darkness based primal...I think it would be interesting if they took SMN in a similar direction of Ysayle. The twitter thing is very oof imo. Not the best place at all for opinions when you have a literal official forums pae. As for housing, unfortunately while instanced housing would fix quite literally almost every housing issue, apparently yoshi p doesnt like it so we cant have it and have to stick to clicking on a placard for 12 hoursThank God. I didn't want to give them a view.

I really hope that we, if they go away with pets, are still able to somehow summon our carbuncles. I just love them and it would be sad if they are gone. After all I choose that job because I love pet jobs and because the carbuncles looked so cute.My going theory for Summoner is they intend to abandon Egis entirely and move towards Demi-Summons. Not only are they quite popular but the devs have routine said how much they detest pets. I wouldn't be surprised if said Demi-Summoners are more like Queen and Fray, where you don't control them. They essentially do their own thing and peace out.
It certainly fits the identity better than current Summoner who is more recognizable as a DoT mage half the time.

Considering they sell carbuncle housing items, carbuncle gear, & carbuncle mounts in the Mogstation, on top of also selling real world carbuncle merch... I think it's safe to assume they're not getting axed.
Nah but they might just become cosmetic. Something to run around the towns and outside with. Like a oversized minion.
