A scythe job may or may not have anything to do with raising the dead like a traditional necromancer. Ran'jit wielded a scythe, but he didn't have any necromantic powers. On the other hand, Zenos' great grandfather, Emet-Selch, aka Hades, was renowned for being able to pull souls out of the lifestream. So Zenos being a scythe wielding necromancer could be a thematic nod to that.

The weapon was actively hidden during the cutscene. That part of the room was kept out of sight. The camera angles show a lot of weapons but deliberately show little of the entire room.

As for what Zenos will wield, it will not be a katana. He specifically says "there is one that I have been meaning to test", and Fandaniel responds with "well well, not quite what I was expecting". That dialogue would make no sense if he just picked up another katana. He's choosing something new to him.

I don't think they would bother to specifically bring it up in conversation at the end of a patch cutscene if he was just going to pick up another katana. The dialogue with Zenos has been pretty clear that he is looking for something new.

Wait why does any major NPC have to even have the new job? Lyna was the only super important Dancer we saw in ShB and I would qualify her as support cast instead of a major npc.

typically that's how it works, save Alisae becoming a RDM and Thancred (due to trust requirements more'n likely) becoming GNB.
We know Alphinaud is going to become a Sage, so the precedent is there.

It's Luchador not reaper, my reasoning:
- YoshiP said "not a sumo", why would he say that unless it's a different kind of wrestler?
- Suplex has been a demanded move, which is a wrestling move. LB3, Suplex? We can finally meme the Phantom Train
- Yes, hints point to Reaper, but we also have "Fandaniel" as a villain. Combining these two leads to "Grim Fandango" (my nickname for Fandaniel), which borrows a lot of Mexican folk lore in a Grim Reaping service. You know Koji Fox would sneak in a pun like "Grim Fandaniel".
- It's a melee job, Luchador would be melee
- It's a new job not present in the FF universe, Luchador has never existed in any FF titles
- "What about maiming gear? You wouldn't see a Luchador in heavy armour" I hear the critics say. Armour King in the Tekken universe was a Luchador. The job could be based off of that aesthetic.
- Last live letter? Lucha t-shirt.
- More reaper hints? Carolina Reaper is a type of chilli pepper. You might put it in a chill con carne, a TexMex dish, tying because to a Mexican hint.

Whilst it is a facetious prediction...I want it to happen. I would be more invested in this than Reaper and I was excited about the idea of a Reaper.

The point I was trying to make is we already know Alphinaud will be Sage so we have our job representation there, I see no reason to force the new melee on someone else just so it is represented. (Much like how no Scion became a Dancer.) I mean it will be Zenos if I have to guess but aside form him I don't need to see anymore more npc's with the job.
