Can no longer log in with a specific character after entering a new area

Is the game the only program running when this occurs? Is there anything running in the background? Additionally, is the game installed on the PC's main drive?

I don't have anything running in the background during play as previously I discovered it made my game run much slower, and every program that can start on booting has been disabled in Task Manager.

The game is installed on a separate hard drive due to the limited size of my laptop's own hard drive preventing me from installing larger games on it. However this is still the only character affected - if this is a possible cause of the problem, is it possible my other characters will also run into this issue at level 70+?

After logging in from a different PC and relocating to The Mizzenmast Inn, removing all gear and logging back out, it seems I can now log back in on my laptop. Thank you for your time.
