This sounds cool. Although personally I'd like it more if there were versions/chance of being attacked and you or other players doing it together defending the package.

Like the old chocobo caravans pre-ARR, but not as short. And probably no fleeing chocobo shenanigans.

I'd be down for it, giving us a reason to be out in the world is never a bad thing.

With Peaks, if you enter from the north, you cannot go southward on foot, because of the higher elevation in the south. With Amh Araeng, while it's possible to go east to west via that cave behind Mord Souq, it's impossible to go west and east with that same route because of the cliff.
For the peaks you would have to go around through Rhalgers reach or the fringes depending on the side you need, and for Ahm Araeng you would have to access through either the crystarium or lakeland, These are things that may get you stuck the first time around but an experienced traveler/cartographer would have no issues knowing the ins and outs of places. No zone in FFXIV is completely inaccessible by non-flying non-teleporting (gil based) methods. So one would have to know these things by simply getting to know the land. =P Which, is a challenge in and of itself.

I do like the other ideas suggested here and am not opposed to them in any manner. I was looking for the easiest route to get this implemented though and software engineering for some of the proposed methods would delay the release which gives me less hope. None-the-less, if you do possess a mountain climbing chocobo that can hop over terrain and they build the animations for it it would be neat.

Likewise, if you want to or need to AFK I can see setting up a tent you can sit in and everything that also spawns a safe zone so random encounter don't happen near you while you are parked. But again I dunno the coding aspect. Whereas in the simple version of this idea they really don't have to do anything to the game except put an NPC and script the quests and be done which may increase the chances of it happening. Loving all the ideas though I'm glad there is a demand for this type of activity. I did like traveling in XI a lot. It actually was more memorable than combat for me, however, the complaint, and very valid one was the time, which is why teleportation and flying exist. So I don't think this would take an insane amount of time if its only once a week and on top of it is completely optional for those of us that want a good journey every now and then.

That sounds kind of tedious. But I like the idea of getting out into the world. Maybe collectibles like EQII did. Some could be tradeable so there's a good gil sink and a market for those willing to go gather, and some could be untradeable. Could reward tomes or scrips based on the class you're on when you complete a set.

At first glance it does. But one day I had the time to travel by land because I was making a video and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Problem is there really isnt any reason to and this would create a totally optional way of enticing you to do so.

I remember I used to play an MMO called Silkraod Online. The Trader job could make money by traveling across the map to other towns and selling their items to an NPC at a higher price than what they purchased them for. But other players who were the Thief job could hunt you down and attack you, and steal your goods. But this is why you partied with ''Hunters'' to protect you, whose job it was to kill Thief players. This was an interesting dynamic I have yet to see in any game since.

FF14 could have something like this, but instead of other players trying to kill you, maybe difficult mobs could spawn to try to kill you, and you could party with other players who would protect you, but also get a portion of the profit from your trades. I think it would be cool traveling with a band of players across the map on a long journey, and killing all kinds of mobs on the way

Like if each zone had some basic local ingredients you could make a potent in-that-zone buff (that lasts quite some time, ranging from stat to QoL, like one might be like sprnt speed 100% while another may be sprint duration 500%), similar to how there were food buffs in FFXV, this camp buff not replacing normal cooking food buffs (perhaps if you combine your camp meal your CUL meal will last longer as well). Maybe a sort of zone guide for each area that comes with some tidbits of lore on plants and animals (that you can use for your benefit).
Yup! When I was grinding for gathering scrips, I was thinking about having some small bonus related to camping on the general area you're flying around, like a small cumulative bonus to Gathering, Perception, GP or GP regeneration.

It could even scale based on how many gatherers you have on your party (1 tent for solo, 2 tents + nice fire for light party, 3 tents + food being cooked for full party).

I know they won't get deep on it but I'd gladly have a tent popping up as a consumable or fashion item.
