Y'shtola merely gave Runar false hope of a time that may never come. Y'shtola is a seeker of knowledge and Runar, his culture and backwater village will provide none of that since there is nothing more to learn from them. And if Y'shtola learns to traverse parallel worlds akin to the shards then she will want to go to those places. Due to her reliance on aether she will die sooner then the other Scions since using Aetheric vision eats away at her life more quickly.

Hell her dialogue when you talk to he has her specifically say she wants to learn to cross the rift partly so she can see them again. Among other things of course.
But I don't know why people keep trying to downplay her fondness for the Blessed or Runar. It clearly isnt her letting them down gently, she actively means to come back.
She does NOT see it as a backwater village. She starts to call them "our people". She's still wearing her Night's Blessed outfit in the Endwalker trailer. They became very important to her.Y'shtola merely gave Runar false hope of a time that may never come. I don't think she's dying. That was one localized line that hasn't been brought up again within several expansions.Y'shtola merely gave Runar false hope of a time that may never come. I mean, retirement is posible, but...
How freaking cool would it be if the armies of the first joined us in our moment of need?
Personally I didnt see that as romantic from her side. Runar may be crushing on her and she may see him as someone dear but not in a romantic sense. She clearly values the nights blessed on a whole and grew to think of them as second home for sure but her loyalties are to her world and to the scions first and foremost, always will be most likely. She spend three years there which is a lot but its a small part of her life all in all, it changed her on a personal level a bit but it didnt change her goals and wants.
Also, as much as I like Runar as a character, no offence but Y'shtola is not available(still hoping that SE will let us confess at some point) Many a nerd, including me would bust down Square Enix doors if they made it into an actual canon romantic relationship. Not to mention, again no offence to Runar or Hrothgars in general, but while yea Y'shtola is a cat girl, she really mostly looks like a human, whereas Runar is genuinely animal looking, kissing would be like letting a dog lick you
In any case, this is either a setting up a retiriment option for Y'shtola post Endwalker, which I doubt to be honest as it doesnt fit her characterwise, doesnt make sense for SE to retire her and generally when games introduce far off worlds that are difficult to visit, they rarely if ever return in the story, or its simply meant to show how much she has grown and changed as an individual, which I think was the point.

I've finished 5.5 MSQ, but when I go to The Empty I see Thancred and Urianger there. If they can hop between worlds then why not Y'shtola too.
Because you haven't completed the Eden raid storyline. Canonically the 1st and 2nd parts happen before 5.3. The final part happens after.
