The odd cutscene with Y'shtola and Runar in 5.3

I was rewatching some cutscenes today and this one really stood out to me. It's the cutscene where Y'shtola says goodbye to Runar in 5.3.

We hear an odd, tinny sound when Y'shtola talks about there being a day when they might not be able to tackle their problems alone, and then she says this line:

"You may call on me. Since a means to travel between worlds exists, you can be sure I will find a way to employ it."

I always found this scene a little strange (none of the other Scions had anything like this happen) and wondered what you thought it could mean and if it has any implications for the story in the future?

I kind of like the theory that it's going to be Y'shtola's "ending" and that she'll retire back to the First once we stop adventuring with the Scions. Or maybe it could simply be that she'll find a way to communicate with them, rather than physically going back? What do you think?

5.3 was the first remote recording through pandemic patch and likely simply an audio bug related to that in the way people found Lyse and Cid's first lines off-sounding.

I think you are correct that this is setting up a retirement option for her post Endwalker.

There could also be the possibility she learned something while she was in the Anamnesis Anyder that she hasn't shared with the rest of the group. 5.3 really was kinda fast paced from the moment the WOL went to collect her so I think she really didn't get a chance to explain what she found, then it was time to say goodbye.

I don't think what she found was nefarious in anyway, but I think she knows something or at least understands something better and hasn't had the opportunity to share it properly. The sound in the scene with Runar is to clue the player in that that interaction was more important than the others, in the sense that it was more than a goodbye.

Fun fact you can go talk to Runar in game now and he says something along the lines that it isn't the right time to call Y'shtola back yet.

5.3 was recorded pre-pandemic. It was 5.4 that was recorded from home.

I think she was just letting him down easy. It would take too long to explain all the hows and whys of her current state as a dimensional traveler, or why she wouldn't be able to come back in spite having come to the First to begin with. She said what she needed to make a clean break, leaving Runar some hope and allowing him extra time to move on that, as a destabilizing aetherial manifestation, she didn't have at the time.

But it would also be very Y'shtola to actually work it all out just to come back and reject him again. My personal hope for her retirement has her as the de facto ruler of Sharlayan. Just because.

I didn't find anything odd about the scene. Interdimensional travel has been said to be impossible but obviously it's not, so figuring out how to do it is a challenge she's willing to tackle when there's spare time.

    Just Y'shtola being Y'shtola.

I have a feeling she knows just how much time she has left for her body since her condition (being able to see aether) is wearing upon her body, slowly killing her. The final scene with her may be us bringing her back to the First and her basically retiring to be with the Night's Blessed.

In that case I guess it was more a matter of people scrutinizing more than usual since it was the delayed patch? I recall it going around that people thought voice actors had changed where they hadn't.

You might have misunderstood what this thread is about. Nobody is talking about voice acting performances or low quality audio. They're referring to this specific scene, and its implication for future story content: https://youtu.be/vCNiYDRQgDI?t=231
