I pull ahead because there are only a half dozen dungeons in the game where a tank is necessary. A tank usually won't die on a single pull if they use CDs. I might as well use that time to go ahead and get started on the next pack. Outside of the most extreme pulls (the penta pull at the start of Mt. Gulg for example) a strong tank and healer will provide sufficient dps to clear everything before running out of CDs.

I'll also let my tanks health plummet if they're not using CDs because there are a disturbing number of tanks who hold onto their mitigation for 'emergencies'. I have no qualms about making the tank believe there's an emergency if it'll prompt better play.

I won't pretend that I don't ever make mistakes, but the overwhelming majority of times a tank dies while I'm healing it's because they either failed a mechanic or refused to mitigate.

Putting all of that aside, a healer who is maximizing their damage and minimizing healing is almost always trying to improve their play. Mistakes will happen while learning, and those mistakes will often kill someone. I'd rather die a few times while new healers try to push their limits than have them play overly cautiously and never improve. I find that the majority of my tank deaths occur with zero dps curebots rather than high damage healers.

Problem is, many tanks (especially those who skated through levels without doing any challenging content) will rely on the healer for all his/her health and will hardly use any CDs while the rest of the group wonders why the healer didn't do more DPS. ><

That's why you just let them drop to sub-50% HP. That always works as a trigger to get them to hit their defensives!
