This isn't about NOT having multiples... Nothing wrong with having as much as you want. And if it brings you happyness, yaay!

This is about: Is there another reason behind why this is being enabled?

Is SE just being nice and catering to those who would enjoy the opportunity to have multiple different characters, or..... is there some other driving force that may necessitate it???

Like what, for example? I can't think of a thing besides it just being a silly idea to charge per character in the first place when most MMOs out there don't do that. It drives away customers.
I don't mean anything rude by this at all, but your post sounds highly paranoid.
What seems shady about this to you? What are you afraid of?

The problem is they should never have implemented multiple classes with 1 character.
Should have been 1 main class and 1 secondary class for the job.
That way multiple characters would have it's use.
Since everyone can learn all classes and jobs.. theres no need to have more as 1 character.

Didn't yoshi say in a post that he wants players to experiment with new characters and make joke characters etc.

Personally I see no use in extra character slots and certainly not 40/8, but what Yoshi says goes, who am I to argue :P

If there was ever any doubt that Rokien isn't the largest troll since Giftforce/horse, this thread flattens it.

I have this weird idea that Rokien is actually a martyr and he is posing as the most obnoxious stereotypical d-bag against any change to this game that isn't a direct copy from FFXI so that people will become so annoyed with his one track mindset and eventually everyone will accept things like dungeon finder, jump, teleporting, etc.
