Daily 90002 disconnects the last few weeks

I am randomly but frequently getting "Connection to the server was lost 90002". This happens on a daily basis since roughly a week after patch 5.5. It can happen from once to three times a day. Rarely do I ever go 24 hours without a 90002 error. It can happen anywhere in the game including in instanced dungeons and duties.

A Google search suggests to turn off Avast or any third party antivirus because it interferes with FFXIV. Problem is, I do not use any third party antiviruses because Windows 10 has Windows Security built in.

I tried adding both the FFXIV program folder and the FFXIV My Documents folder to exceptions in Windows Security but the problem persists.

I have NO lag or anything up to the disconnect error, it just happens out of the blue.

My wifi or internet is NOT dropping and I get the error on both Wifi and hard wired into the modem.

It is not my internet because no other game has any issues. Also when I get the 90002 error, I can immediately log back in so it is definitely not an internet issue. However, it still becomes a pain in the ass as I get the character not properly logged out error message on top of the "world is full" message. Also the stream does not drop when I get a 90002 error message if I happen to be streaming, so again, internet not the issue.

My internet connection is: 120 Mbps Comcast cable.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We apologize for the delay in our response, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    - The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"

-Make sure your fire wall or antivirus program is not interfering with the game

    - Check to see if the following port ranges are opened on your router. You can contact your ISP and request they open them for you:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

-Try disabling background applications and do a clean boot by opening the task manager and selecting the “Start up” tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Should check for packet lost, if you're on cable there is a known to packet lost on bad modem there is a list here (https://stickystatic.com/tech/bad-modem-test). MMO games are pretty sensitive due to amount of activities happens in front of your screen.

wouldnt i have issues in other games to? its literally just XIV that i have this issue with no other games including other MMO's i experience this issue on. also to note i have tested that with a VPN and these issues go away. i live in Colorado too so i dont know why a vpn would be needed. the issue is i like to play on my PS5 and i can't use the VPN on it.

Yeah, I have been there. Not sure why this is always an issue for me on Cable. Level3 (example) datacenter always get random hiccup and packet lost. When you use VPN it route differently by pass certain server traces. Right now I'm on fiber - entirely on different network nodes.

XIV is pretty sensitive to packet loss, so this could be why youre experiencing such hiccups. There's basically what amounts to a road-jam in between XIV and certain cable companies - and considering Colorado's location, it seems that you're probably encountering that road jam. XIV's reps *could* talk with reps from the ISPs and maybe possibly fix it, but considering how much ISPs have degraded over the years with decreased regulations and increased monopolization, that's not likely to happen (they won't lose much money - XIV still needs them to provide the service to consumers, consumers will still need internet and are likely to either be locked in a contract or locked regionally by increased monopolization, and ISPs are all about providing "good 'nuff" service to as much people as possible by spending as little money as possible - and to fix this would cost money.)
