The Team working on the game, Creative Unit 3, aren't the PR(public relations) team, those are to totally different parts of the company. So while the PR team may be well staffed, Creative unit 3 isn't.

So if anything thats a direct issue with Square Enix and not Creative Unit 3, the dev team, and would only play into the management of things being bad, thus the dev team being understaffed, and the product placement team not being understaffed, showing where the priority of the parent company as a whole lies.

In the end, the Dev team is under staffed.

WHy are we not calling this out, why are we not talking more about this. Its not as simple as hiring a bunch of Devs, especially in the middle on the pandemic, but SE STILL could have thought twice about a lot of what they expect the team to do with developing 2 games while under staffed.

Easier content is easier to make and I don't blame them, its easier to allocate stuff to things that players will funnel into and again I don't blame them, creating content that relies on pre-existing content is just smart, and I dont blame them. But how is this not reason to criticize the management? How is this not worrying? I'm not saying XIV will die in 10 years, but we have again MORe confirmation that they're still understaffed, and this is 10 years in? Will we just expect them to work understaffed another 10 years? Thats unhealthy, thats Unfair to them Unfair to us as players, and generally bad business practice on SE.

So again, why are we arguing semantics amonst ourselves when we can directly Criticize SE?
I mean, I thought I was criticizing SE.

It's why we can't have nice things like viera hats, or male viera. Not just more difficult content - which, by the way, I don't do. I'd like PvP to actually be fun in this game, and there to also be a couple dozen new hairs for viera, but that's not the world we live in.

I'm gonna be real here, I don't know what we are arguing over.

Anyway, I will cite this for reference:

work on other content that needs to be developed in tandem, so the higher the difficulty of the
content, the higher the amount of dev resources required to play test and make adjustments
    will become.
To alleviate this, generally speaking, there are only two options. One is to divide the
development staff and play test staff and have the play test staff provide detailed feedback to
the development team, which in turn is implemented. Alternatively, we could extend the
development schedule and delineate a specific adjustment period that can be done outside of
when the content is being developed.

And even then, it's not the entirety of the dev team that is under staffed. More specifically, battle content designers and qa testers of sufficient skill levels.

I’m surprised they don’t let certain players beta the fights for them. If the problem is getting data and tuning, why not just extend a private invitation to certain players to try the fight when it’s near done; the fight need not drop any rewards as I am sure people like Mr Happy or whoever has a good relationship with Se would be happy just getting a scoop to talk about once it goes public.

Other mmos I have played have had beta weekends/weeks that let people try content without rewards to collect data.

I mean there are entire companies dedicated to QA and play testing- I’m surprised they don’t outsource that work in some way. It’s common over here in the states, if not the rule. However, I’m not sure if it’s as normal to do so in Japan.

I've heard many things from Marvel Avengers doing so bad they're tight fisted with money, but that doesnt account for the last 10 years. I've heard since 1.0 did so bad there may be peope within the higher ups at SE who still dont trust the Title, thus they're keeping resources and money limited, that way if things ever go south like 1.0 they won;t take as much of a loss. And I've heard standard Jp culture dictates not doing things outside the company, but again many JP companies for gaming do hire other companies dedicated to QA/Play Testing so again, doesn't add up.

I personally feel it could be the 1.0 thing.

Of the many things I've heard is they dont want to have players playing the fights/seeing content because of spoilers and them being able to clear ahead of others, yet other MMO companies have had players sign NDAs and didnt show them final builds/just made public test servers that anyone can test on. I kinda wish we had public test servers.

Don’t they do that with the first trial of every expansion? Like how ShB had them fight Titania at the media tour and then i believe there was one for ruby weapon at some point.

Media tour usually has a limit of where they allowed to go, i.e try out the jobs at cap but in a early zone. Like in Shb they were more or less only allowed to roam in Ill Mheg.

There is little to no testing outside of the dev teams. A PTR would be neat but that not how SE rolls.

Ah i see :/ Yeah a PTR would be extremely nice because then we likely wouldn’t have as many on release job problems as we normally do. Such a shame. Especially because it’s usually player feedback that makes them have to buff or nerf jobs anyways so it’s like... why not just do it before it even becomes a problem???
