So perhaps that's because generally it doesn't happen and most people in the fandom never come into contact with the idea?

It's backwards logic to assume that if people aren't talking about a thing, they must know about it and are deliberately ignoring it.

I'm not sure what you expect them to say anyway. If one individual sends a death threat to someone, do we all need to know about it and talk about it as if it is an ongoing "problem of the fandom" and not just the action of one awful person? How much time should we spend talking about this person?

If I heard about something like that happening, I'd think "how awful" but I wouldn't go discussing it.

Oh you're right, and I wish that were the case, I've sadly met people who've heared about it and think the FF community would never do something like that. Even in the case when Scottzone showed proof, still didnt believe it.

There were also they very detailed death threat with the TEA clear with Sfia, I believe some of his IRL info was leaked, and another creator made a video about why he dislikes XIV, he was met as well with death threats. I do hope these are simple one time occurences. But still things that happened showing the extreme side of the community which could also lead to an aversion to speaking out about the game if its not positive, thus making criticism rare.

Which goes back into my main point, enourage it either way. Always encourage criticism.

Who is scottzone? I don't keep up with XIV content creators, let alone broader internet creators.

Scottzone was a WoW player and youtuber/streamer, who got into FFXIV and kinda broke down why some WoW players may not give XIV a shot, essentially saying play other MMOs cuz they're cool and FFXIV looks cool, he was a newer WoW player at that and an even newer XIV player.

The situation over all was he was used to WoWs 9-12 bosses per tier make up, thats the standard for the raids there with the occasional mini raid with a smaller amount of bosses. He did tier 1 of Eden and his only issue was he wish there were more bosses, and that was it really, someone sent him a death threat shortly after he released the video stating how he felt about Eden after clearing it in savage

So one extremist person sent a death threat to someone, and now "the FFXIV community" is "notorious" for sending death threats?

Firstly, that's not the actions of the community.

Secondly, there's not much we can do about it if people are going to come to that conclusion. We can't stop it from happening again by talking about it.

Thirdly, how much air and attention does that person deserve for their actions? None from the community. Death threats are an issue for the police to deal with.

What do you expect to happen? The whole fandom sitting around forevermore saying "but we mustn't forget that once someone sent a death threat to a YouTube streamer and stained the community for all time"?

It wasn’t just one person. It was numerous people who not only sent him death threats, but also threatened to doxx him and his private information everywhere if he didn’t leave the game and promised to never speak about it again. Again this isn’t a one time thing but it’s what brought it a bit more widely known. Other examples being the tea clear group and Lazypeon. That is the actions of the community whether you want to believe it or not. Is it the community as a whole? No. But it is still part of the community. Talking about it would actually help i’d argue, by spreading awareness aka how a lot of other things in real life are handled. No ones expecting people to sit on it 24/7 but it is something that should be addressed and remembered. It’s one example of how delusional and crazy this community can be in regards to “protecting” their beloved game. It’s all part of the overarching problem that’s addressed in this thread. If people want to gloss over it and brush it aside like they always do then by all means do that but don’t expect other people to just forget or be okay with that.

Oh, that's just a sadly normal FFXIV players reaction to anyone mentioning WoW. Although, that is changing as more people finally stop using 14 as their side game and completely move over. Honestly, I'd love to have a discussion about why there's so much hatred for a game that isn't relevant to 14 outside of being another mmo with a similar combat style (surprise, this is why it's appealing to WoW players).

The hate is nearly one sided, as I've seen tons of friendly banter about 14 jobs in trade/lfg chat on WoW. I guess since it's a less volatile topic than whatever meta was happening in that game. You MENTION WoW in 14 and you're looking to get some paragraphs of someone having an absolute meltdown. HOWEVER I have collected a bunch of fresh sprouts from WoW who are having a blast.

Ahem, sorry for that tangent, but that example has very little to do with criticizing 14 and all to do with saying WoW and 14 in the same breath..

Nah i agree it’s something i’ve noticed as well. I’ve never played WoW normally but i do periodically look in things such as the reddit and ffxiv portions and everything and they seem way more positive about it than i’ve seen the 14 community handle WoW things which...seeing how they’ve treated WoW refugee youtubers it starts to make sense...

But with how so much of this game is aged, very poorly aged, and out of date, it makes one wonder.

Along with the scaling being touched up with Endwalker, it would make more sense to add in resonable ilvl caps, as well as take another look at the jobs and how they're scaling as a whole within said content before the release, possibly things like classes getting AoE earlier since the newer jobs already have it low lvl, update the hall of novice to teach it, update the tutorial pop ups for it, and thats just one example. So much of this game has changed since ARR and it needs to reflect that.

I don't blame so many for being scared of High end content, or change, or anything really, when the game itself doesn't teach you how to even play anything right.
I don't know what kind of man hours we're talking, but I imagine with PS5/end of PS4 era, we should be able to have a proper physics engine at this point. More accurate hit boxes, jumping/platforming mechanics etc.

There is just so much potential if they ever go with this.

I know I mention Guildwars 2 a lot, but that really is an excellent engine, despite problems with story. If they did something along those lines we could have proper, even Mario-esque jumping areas, not to mention better potential minigames like Mario Kart, dodgeball or tag.

Even combat would be improved as some mechanics could be avoided by jumping over them (something like a shockwave).

It's just a question of is it worth it to them, or would they just rather develop a different game entirely.
