    Linkshell management

    I assume there has been suggestions of this kind in the past, but considering such simplistic requests have fallen on deaf ears, I will resubmit this request in hopes that someone actually reads this and decides to follow through, however unlikely.

    To make things simple, advanced options for Linkshell management would be nice, such as assigning special ranks/tasks to an individual or group, but currently, more than anything, we need the ability to kick people out of our Linkshells!

    Long Version: My Linkshell, Gilgamesh, has been around for over a year now, and though we've had our ups and downs, we've managed to keep our heads high, have fun, and show others how it's done where others would fall, but even our Linkshell is faltering to time despite the merger. Leadership is forced to be selective with recruitment due to limited space and those who suggest re-shelling must realize the annoyance involved with making a whole new Linkshell. Re-adding everyone online, gradually catching officers while they're online (for those less organized and active, this is hell, I imagine), you can only do this so many times before people get fed up, and the population is so dynamic due to vets like myself who've been around since Beta, burn out on content, repetition, or have nothing to do because no one is on, worsening an already stagnant problem.

    Now, personally, I hate PUGs (Pick Up Groups for those thinking something else) because chances are, no matter the MMO, if it's a random group of people, regardless of how good everyone is, chances are lack of familiarity will cause the party to fail so hard someone gets a nose bleed. PUGs are nice, and in a game like FFXIV, they're a necessity, but Linkshells are there to find groups, make friends, meet people, and get to know one-another's strengths and weaknesses and use this to the utmost advantage to minimize nubness and get the optimum level of ass-kicking in by day's end.

    So... PLEASE! For the love of the Twelve, edit the ability to kick people from Linkshells! There's already a function now, just modify it to work regardless of on/offline status and proimity so we can do less screwing around with management in the unorthodox manner, and more boot-to-ass interfacing people out of our precious Linkshells!

    This message brought to you by the many many people here in Eorzea supporting the dev team and Yoshida. GO GO SQUARE ENIX!

    They haven't fallen on deaf ears. They just aren't able to be implemented before 2.0. Then we will have linkshell management tools

    Should we give you the "server limitation" speech? Or the "It's coming in 2.0" one?

    I agree, it's long overdue! Our shell has been around since beta and we've had to reform on several occasions just to clean house. Being able to kick members freely would have come in real handy for us this week (the merge brought in a lot of PL'ing trash). But as others have said—they've already addressed this and it's not coming till 2.0.

    I think someone is having a lil bit of split personality

    I sit on the side of enjoying pugs and simply enjoying the game deaths and all.

    Ny opinion and by no means is this a troll or an attack is that to play MMOs pick up parties are the heart of the game, how do you meet people, find people you like and enjoy content if you dont embrace pick up parties .

    And for those who will inevitably say join an LS, how exactly do you think these LS's where formed originally ? They dont pop out the ground like a daisy or grow on trees :P.

    However I agree with the spirit of the post we need admin tools for Link shells definitely ! maybe even a mute button for troublesome members

    Eh.
    @Magnesium02: I had looked about, google nor the search feature on the forums proved to be helpful in pointing to that little tidbit. Also, I fail to see how it would be so hard to change a few lines of code to cause the "kick" button to remove them. The only difference is, instead of having to stand right next to player and use the cmd, it just..iunno... does it, removing them from a list. I'm sure Linkshell Memeber lists are just a few lines of code wrapped around a normal text document full of names. It should be as easy as "remove string value from list blahblahblah" and there you go. I'm not saying I know programming per se, I just know I did things like this in Visual Basic, Java, C++ in school, and it's all pretty simplistic at it's core. If someone could explain why exactly this would be so difficult, like "Some moron put it in the root code of everything so it can't be tampered without seriously screwing everything up" then that would be a logical reason and it would put me somewhat at ease. This is pretty much the point where I just blame the original developers for having such an abundance of common sense that is STILL being cleaned up by competent developers under Yoshida's command.

    @buritoslicer
    I assure you I'm not an unreasonable idiot so I need neither speeched. 1. I fail to see how it's a server limitation as expressed above, and 2. This is a semi-critical thing you'd thing they'd try and make a minor adjustment to, it's hurting the server community to a degree, and it is this community that has allowed them to continue thus far, and have held faith in them enough to pay for an incomplete game in hopes that they will be rewarded accordingly. So far they've made great strides towards that future, but again, being given "we'll get right on it...come December 2012~January 2013" is not a prefered response than say... "they done F#$%ed up when they made this game." At least for the most part I feel as though I'm being logical and genuinely inquisitive.

    @Pulseczar
    My Linkshell leader is gone come Diablo3, I'm sure everyone will start feeling the pain again from all the new releases, hell, a few of us already are lol

    @Sasagawa
    Yea, sorry, I gave it a look over and didn't proof read for consistency. I pretty much am split about the whole thing. PUGs are a nessessity no matter where you go, and are the lifeblood of this game as in pretty much all other MMOs out there, but Linkshells, Guilds, Legions, Clans, et cetera, are the bone, they really get things done. I do PUGs every now and then, but my Linkshell is like family, and I always go in head first to crazy shi- uh...crap (Ifrit, AV, misc. NMs) with full confidence that everyone knows what they're doing, and to almost never make nub mistakes, success doing Ifrit in my LS with vets like myself is generally close to 100%, but so far I've had terrible luck in PUGs doing it because it's generally significantly less lol

    If anything here makes little sense, blame it on the fact I've been up 32 hours spamming crafts before my time is taken up by Garuda, that sexy green... Primal...because I got nothin'

    we should be able to kick people from the LS when they are not online .
    Its annoying to get more and more idle never playing members on the LS who just take up space .
    SE implement it so we can recruit other active people and boot those who are rarely or never online

    I can't remember if it was a translation from Japanese or another language, a Dev post or something form a producer letter or live interview. The general gist was that the current coding of linkshells makes it too difficult in those "few simple lines of code" to make LS management tools. They have planned for the systems to be in place in 2.0 so they are working on other things in the meatime.

    Like i said, can't remember exactly and don't feel like spending hours looking it up for you.
