Some general questions on Final Fantasy XIV

Hey!

Although I got the game in September 2010, the game was unplayable on my laptop (which to me made no sense because I could run heaps of games on it with no problems) soo uh,

Q1 What was the game like from release? I remember killing a couple of monsters but I was a Conjurer at the time and it was so hard to do anything.

I watch videos now, and to be honest the no auto attack idea seemed alright .. I mean I wouldn't have hated it so much if the game was playable for me back then (lag from internet as I live in AUS + delay from my laptop).

Q2 When 2.0 is released, what is happening to the current system of classes + jobs? I read that when 2.0 is released we'll be able to create an extra 8 characters free of charge?

Q3 Is there any service I can use that can give me better connection to the game (for instance I use BattlePing when playing games based in the USA). Apparently the servers are based in Japan, and BattlePing doesn't go anywhere near Japan..

1) "It was hard to do anything" is pretty much the best way to sum up this game at launch. There have been a ton of revamps and quality-of-life additions so it's a lot more fun and a lot more inviting instead of punishing you for wanting to play it.

2) The system will be as it is now, possibly with classes getting more abilities than they do now (the devs for sure want to add more crowd control for mages). We are supposed to be getting new classes as well, either around or with 2.0. There have been talks of branching jobs/jobs requiring multiple classes so they are going to be building on top of the current systems and emphasizing the difference between versatile, small-group/solo classes and the specialized, large-group Jobs.

3) I don't know anything about ping services but everyone experiences the same positioning lag no matter where they are, it's just one of the unfortunate problems with the current system.

A1 I suppose the biggest changes from release are that several systems were changed so that things didn't take an agonizingly long time and a large amount of content has been added. The game is much friendlier to newcomers and more fun to play overall, but some aspects are still limited by fundamental problems in the 1.0 server and client programs, hence the 2.0 rewrite.

A2 The class and job systems are not changing, though they may add more. In 2.0 there will be two plans: 8 characters, one per server, and 40 characters, 8 per server max. The prices are listed with the info on the Legacy campagin.

A3 There was a post a while back about someone trying battleping for FFXIV and they said it made a noticeable difference.

Is it possible to transfer servers/worlds? I'm currently playing on Ragnarok, which I didn't find out until after, is a European server and I live in the US.
This causes a few problems as I don't see many people playing when I'm on.

Hey Riciendo!

It's not currently possible to change servers, might be in the future though. If you haven't gotten very far in the game, I suggest deleting your current character and creating a new one on another server.

Another option would be trying to find yourself a US linkshell on Ragnarok. Can try the Ragnarok forums and / or shouting in Ul'dah.

Looking at the lodestone profile, he has LNC30 (a day max), PGL15 (an hour max), CNJ15 (same) and THM4 (few mins), so starting from scratch is still an option... I'm basing the estimates on some people helping him to get started.

Pretty much. One chigoe mob sends you from 1-5, a few more minutes on spriggans and you're 10. Then, cactuars to lv20 for an hour or so... starting from there it's either party (about a day) or more PL (some hours).

I don't really like this system but it's the way it works.
