Why Duty finder queue so 30min for EX?

Why would anyone DF any EX? DF is for normal content where screening players and party control isnt necessary.

Because they are ultimately the very same players who join regardless of using DF or PF. They are not magically replacing the bad players when you use PF.

And one advantage of the DF is the penalty for leaving. So people stick longer around and don't leave after just one or two wipes. Sometimes you spend more time in PF for replacing people than actually inside the fight and learning >.>

And screening players and party control? Hu? Don't think that is necessary for an ex trial. And I don't see that happening in PF, besides from locking out wich job is the black sheep of the month maybe.

Some of the people who would queue for Duty Finder would never use Party Finder. It does actually result in better and more prepared people joining. When Duty Finder was popular, it was normal for a tank to not know what a tank swap was, whereas they are far more likely to know that before joining Party Finder, especially when parties usually ask them to watch a guide in the description.

That's not to say they are as prepared as they could be. They usually don't wear as good gear as they could which makes it unnecessarily painful. They will reach the bare minimum item level and some of them didn't buy any food.

Because EX fights aren't in any roulette except mentor roulette which requires battle mentor AND duty complete of every single duty in the game short of savage except current EXs which are not in it either, they get put in later when they become old. Coils, by the way, counts as savage.

Combine with the fact that NA servers have a large tendency towards people having the 'you don't pay my sub' attitude even if not explicitly stated, in content where one person refusing to do mechs because it's 'not their playstyle' or 'stop being elitist we don't have to be perfect' can result in the entire group being unable to clear because that person is getting them killed. Combine further with 'duty complete' allowing unsync to count, so even if you do finally get a few mentors dragged in...there is a high chance they may have no idea what they're doing or immediately leave because nobody wants to spend 90 minutes dying repeatedly with never getting a clear, with randoms they will likely never see again.
So EXs get done in party finder, where you can talk and plan beforehand, explain to people who don't want to listen that if they don't follow mechs they're getting kicked because everyone has to pull their weight in that content. End result of all this? People in DF'd EXs are predisposed to not listen to things and cause wipes, amplifying everything up to here, simply by virtue of being in DF and already showing that they don't listen to things like 'use party finder'.

The leaving penalty doesnt effect the ones who leave after one or two wipes. And sometimes you spend more time in duty finder then party finder.
I fail to see how duty finder ever could beat party finder in NA.
