Why are people refusing to buy from my retainer specifically?

Two full sets of Emperor's New gear up on the 27th, come back 48 hours later only to find that only 2/18 of the pieces sold. Not only that, when I check the competitors' prices, not only most of mine are still the cheapest, but there is a big gap between my listed items and the cost of the next one up. Originally, mine was listed for 1 gil below the lowest offer. Now my lowest offer is STILL there yet on multiple things, the next one up is thousands above mine.

This means people bought all the more expensive ones on up from mine ignoring the cheapest one.

Here is one of the eight examples that happened when I just checked my retainer. I had an Emperor's New Breeches listed for 8199 gill. Originally 8200 was the lowest competition. However, I checked just now, mine is still 8199. However, the lowest competitor's price is 15,000. This means people bought all the ones from 8200-14999 and IGNORED the 8199 price.

This has been a problem since about a month ago, been raising prices frequently just to still be 1 gil below the lowest competition as people are refusing to buy from me.

Why are people refusing to buy from my retainers and are willing to pay much more just to avoid buying from me?

Assuming this isn't another troll thread, did you actually check the sale history? People may have changed their prices or took them off the market.

Also, the Emperor's New pieces can be just bought at a merchant by literally anyone. You're banking on them being lazy, and lots of people are plenty willing to just go there and get them for 57 gil instead of buying them for over 8000. That's quite a markup, and people probably think it's not worth it. That one in particular I imagine isn't the most popular, either.

I never buy from people who undercut by one. And if it’s an expensive item, I’ll pay anywhere from an extra 10k to 20k to avoid an obvious undercutter.

The trick isn't to undercut by one, but to undercut to 69.
If someone is selling something for 10,000 gil, sell your item for 9,969.
If they undercut by one and price it at 9,968... then reduce your price to 9,869

What world are you selling them on? A quick check of sales history on Ultros shows either you're flat out lying (prices are much lower) or you're not selling there.

There are a lot of players who never unlock any DoH classes or they'd rather make the trip to a MB to buy instead of going to Vesper Bay/Mor Dhona. One of the ways I use to fund a new alt is to sell those items on the MB once I have retainers unlocked (certain pieces of racial gear also sell surprisingly well on the MB).

I think the confusion is because you seem to have a lot of basic problems that no one else has. Yet you've also just said here how you have 3 different characters at 80 (to run the latest raid) which is just confusing as to how you can be having so many issues with things no one else struggled with and yet you've played/levelled 3 different characters.

typically I will never buy from 1 gil undercutters since they are annoying, and lately, often market bots.

as someone said, check teh sales history, that tells you the real story. likely you were undercut.
